So I really applaud BD for recording their new stock. And I'd recommend anyone serious about high-end bass visit their store in Warwick...

Here's their channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-wL-AW8fNJ1T46TZkHoikQ

BUT is it me or do their videos make every bass (almost) sound the same?

Notable exceptions being some burpy Warwicks and the odd Alembic.

Discuss?

Accepted but we all realise it that's about phrasing. With BD, I'm talking about every bass being rendered into a mid-range 'Snark'!?

I bought a Lull form them and wouldn't hesitate to buy there again.

I would never buy a bass from the strength of a video --BUT-- I found the videos very useful and I was certainly able to hear the difference between the Basses I wanted to check out. I also checked out other makes to get an idea of the way basses come across in their vids. Their preamp/amp set up isn't my set up, the guy playings fingers aren't my fingers so I wouldn't expect the bass to sound like that in my hands. But I loved the fact they do the videos and that you can see the bass in action, even if just to compare models or put the fun factor in.

Their videos seem to be by and for people who principally play finger style or slap. Nothing wrong with that, but it means someone like me who plays solely with a pick doesn't get any idea of the sound of a particular bass. Same goes for the only bass guitar show I've ever been to - i came away with a headache after half an hour as everyone seemed to be playing Level 42 basslines.

Oddly enough i find quite different sounds between many basses.
I especially like the clean sharp punch of the Vigier Passion today and also one of the Sandbergs had a nice tone in comparison to other basses.
I guess many basses are just copies of a theme tho.
There's only so much you can do with a precision styled pick up.
I do think its a fantastic idea for any bass shop.
Maybe its because you're listening though Laptop speakers kinda thing. I tend to use headphones when i want a serious listen.

I was in there yesterday. It was my first visit. I played 3 or 4 Fender basses. All I can say is to me they all sounded rather "samey" and that was similar to the sound in the video; rather "metallic" to my hearing. I was looking for a more Warwick-like growl.

I know this is probably down to the string selection. The young guy there told me they change the strings on all the basses they take in. I guess if they use the same strings and those have a strong metallic rasp to the sound they will sound all the same to some extent.

This is one I rather do like the sound of though:

You're right. It would at least I would have found out if their Streamer sounded anything like my own Streamer.
