Smooth Hound Innovations Digital Wireless Guitar System

Another breakthrough with my lovely Smooth Hound wireless dealio. Because I am a no-life nerd, I've been looking at ways to secure the SH on a strap - as I'm a mainly P Bass player, I prefer that to using it as a "bug". Firstly, I discovered that the occasional crackle was not the fault of the device, but my Maplins special, female to female 1/4 inch jack adapter. I bought the recommended Neutrik Rean NYS236 and all was well. Flawless signal. If you're using anything else, I'd consider getting one of these. Then I turned to keeping the blighter on a strap. Initially, I used a velcro cable tie wrapped around the adapter, which worked pretty well, but if I used it on a bass with a wider strap (ie, those 2" Fender design straps that everybody has...) I was concerned that there wouldn't be a big enough area for the cable tie to grab hold of. My lo-fi eureka moment came when I spotted one of my lovely wife's hair ties - those things never break and they have a really small footprint. Wrap one around the adapter three times and bob's yer uncle.

I favour right angled jacks as they seem to send the cable in the right direction. I got mine custom made from this eBay seller - ultimate_pro_audio I get all my leads from him..or her. Brilliant quality and not much money, either. I'm sure our own obbm at http://www.rock-wire.uk.com/ would do a damn fine job of one, too. I gaffa tape the adaptor to the SH and the cable just in case I get a bit over excited and yank the cable out of one of the sockets - unlikely, but somehow, I managed to do it at a rehearsal.

The pictures should clarify it a bit. I love my Smooth Hound.

Here's the SH with the adaptor and lead

And here's the whole thing sort of in situ

That's a Neotech wireless pouch, I think. I considered that one, along with a bunch of others. With my old Line 6, I used a camera case which I adapted. That worked ok. It's useful to be able to turn the device off and on without messing about with the case and they can be a bit fiddly if you change basses during your set. They look smart. I've given my lo tech version a good old rattle and it's holding up well so far.

Oh, got a link to that product EBS?
It's the Neotech - as correctly stated by rushbo. The small is generally what you want for standard sized transmitters, so you'll have no problem fitting the smooth hound in there

No problem. Post a pic with the Smooth Hound in place when it arrives - I don't think anybody has used one of these for holding one yet and they are a bit different in their format to other transmitters.

Excellent, now I finally have a use for those pointless phone-pockets that are supplied with laptop backpacks and are too small to hold a modern smartphone!

Ha ha, I was just taking one when you posted!

That works doesn't it... although I'm probably stating the obvious when I say a longer lead would be preferable so the pouch can be mounted the other way around?

Yes, I'd agree with that. All I have to hand at the moment though is really short patch cables or 1m + which is too long. I can't use right angles on my bass, they won't fit in the socket.

If you go to eBay and search for Ultimate Pro Audio and then message the shop owner, he'll make up whatever length cable you want and whatever jack plugs you prefer. Good value too. Or obbm on here is well worth a punt and comes highly recommended.

Thanks for the heads up but I make all my own cables.

 • 5 weeks later...

I was having trouble with mine, started a few months ago and didn't always happen, but every so often there was quite a loud noisy signal (low-frequency noise). Was getting a little frustrated, and was convinced it was the replacement unit (it was replaced for the problem at the start of this page), found out yesterday, it is my power supply.
I have a harley benton isolated PSU (which I had to get to enable the Powerchord FX and B3 together). The B3 needs two channels to provide enough power for it. Turns out the smoothhound receiver is right on the edge of the power supplied by a channel (and I bet that they vary slightly so it depends on which socket I plug it into). Plugged it with a double plug and problem goes away!

No problem Dood!

We'd had a few people bemoaning the centre positive supply and it felt a bit mean to ask people to source a polarity reverser for themselves so I placed a bulk order and we're now sending one out with every unit.

It was only fair that we sent them to everyone who'd already bought a Classic!!

Can I buy one of these from you, Chris, along with the Neutrik adapter?

Could you get in a Paypal link for accessories only, Chris?

Otherwise OK although my PC crashed first time through & I don't know if I payed twice - I suspect not, but could you check please?

Paypal checkout has been a PITA but is nearly there. We got your order and it's on its way to you now.
