anaxcrosswords
We’ve had difficult, easy, and the ‘not as easy/difficult as you think’ categories, but it just struck me that from time to time you get those basslines which are just beautiful to play regardless of difficulty. Checking on comments to something I posted on YouTube, I noticed my channel throwing up a recording we did of the Ki-C & JoJo ballad All My Life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cmsk18uv-s Absolutely nothing spectacular about the bassline, but for some reason (OK, maybe because our guitarist has mixed it well enough for the thick bass sound to cut through) it’s just perfect. We only did it once – a first dance request – but I remember how good it felt to play. Do you have basslines that stand out simply because of what they are, regardless of difficulty? Jimryan
Two of my favs are Joss Stone's cover of L.O.V.E and TLC's waterfalls. Neither are particularly challenging or showy, I just regard them as two of my favs.
DeeC16
I've always loved this bassline, relatively simple but beautiful all the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTHjFeXmnHs
bonzodog
I have always loved playing keep on running and although its the intro bit most people recognise, the verse and chrorus are just as enjoyable. Eaton rifles is another of my favourites

Norris
Oliver's Army by Elvis Costello is a favourite on the odd occasions that we do it. Pulling Mussels by Squeeze is another. Some nice arpeggios in both and a bit different

(the Pepe Deluxe track finishes at about 4:25 but then goes on in silence for another 4-odd minutes for some daft reason) Edited June 22, 2015 by Old Man Riva
SteveK
"Penny Lane", a great song, but the real icing on the cake has to be Paul's descending bass line under the verse. I marvel at its beautiful, effective, simplicity every time I hear it. ambient
Not a bass line per se, but bass never the less, and very, very beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7IofD4lSq0

jacko
Level 42's 'Dune Tune' is up there for me but one of my all time favourites is Jimmy Johnson on James Taylor's 'Millworker', especially played live where they perform a sublime duet intro. super al
Dune Tune here too! Got me hooked on bass and from that I got into Stanley Clarke. Despite the 80s production I love SC's version of Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (Mingus is better but didn't hear that until much later!) Used to play Lovin Arms by Woods Brothers on the EUB, Chris Woods plays the upright beautifully on that (not sure I did it justice).
Raslee
I think some of Flea's earlier melodic playing like 'Soul to Squeeze' & 'Pretty little ditty' are a worthy mention
ballstomonty
Something by the Beatles. I love Paul's line on this. http://youtu.be/IrW7dlDHH28 Dear Prudence was the first time I noticed how brilliant and essential Paul's playing was as well. http://youtu.be/M-2lMstw6qs Then there's Don't Let Me Down... I'll stop before this becomes a long list of Beatles songs
