Hobbayne Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Quite an exhaustive list methinks. http://www.udiscovermusic.com/the-50-greatest-bass-players Quote
discreet Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Not bad, but... no Bob Babbit? No Joe Osborn? Quote

Lord Sausage Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 ha ha what a joke. When Cliff Burton and Steve Harris are that high up you know its a load of bollocks! http://youtu.be/23YO8ijT4Ao Quote
EssentialTension Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 When the spotify example of James Jamerson playing is Motorhead's Ace of Spades you know it's total sh**e. I actually knew before that but it's something to say. Quote
lowdown Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I suppose Anthony Jackson was just the tea boy on dozens of albums and singles then. And there was me thinking he was a Bassist. Quote

Roger2611 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 It's just a list, not a definitive list as it is always going to be subjective, to me Stuart Morrow (original New Model Army) has got to be one of the most creative bass players I have ever heard but if Nathan East's style is your bag you may well listen to Morrows work and just think it a noise! chris_b Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 It's not claiming to be the 50 greatest bassists. So it's just a list. Quote

chris_b Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015
It does say The 50 Greatest Bass Players.
OK. I missed that bit. In that case. . . .what? Mike Rutherford (and about half a dozen others) before Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Nate Watts, David Hood, Cornell C Williams and George Porter Jr!! Quote
Roland Rock Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 There's me listening to an album Chuck Rainey played on this morning, thinking how he was one of the greatest players ever. Guess I was wrong 😕 Quote

pete.young Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 It's a list of lists, compiled from 11 or 12 internet surveys, possibly the laziest journalism I can recall. And no mention of Colin Hodgkinson! Quote
visog Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 These lists are guaranteed to cause an argument! I won't argue the travesty that Jaco is so far down the list. Or Chris Squire. But what does strike me is how much it's skewed to the fashion of the day, whenever these sort of lists are made. Also sadly, it bears almost no relation to popular music today.... unfortunately we are the tuba players of this generation. Quote
Thunderbird Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 If it was the 50 worst bassists I would be in with a chance but seriously No Dave Ellefson its a fix I tells ya lol Quote
Agreed, and that on top of these kind of surveys both parochial and merely a list of people/items that the kind of people who respond have vaguely heard of... Quote
bassace Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 The list is no different from a Channel 4 prog populated by talking heads, failed comedians and game show hosts who haven't a clue what they're talking about. We all have our preferences for all sorts of reasons but my favourites don't have a claim above anyone else's faves. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Was Johnny rodd , or did vicious in there ? Haven't looked yet Quote
