Roger2611
I watched a few minutes of it, unsurprisingly not my bag at all, like Tim R I grew up in the 80's with the likes of Grandmaster Flash (who happens to be headlining the Sonic stage tonight!) and the start of the Hip Hop scene, I can't see how Kanye West's style can be compared, I cannot think of another genre that has moved so far from its beginnings. I thought it was a shame the lighting rig was all led lights as had they been the good old par cans he would have been fully cooked and ready to serve within 10 minutes! So far I think both nights headline acts have not been a good choice, I am hoping for something more exciting tonight Edited June 28, 2015 by Roger2611

I have never had a conversation with a middle aged white bloke about Kanye... or even classic hip hop (DMC/PE etc.)
Pretty poorly thought out comment there considering the type of forum this is. Also a little unnecessarily insulting to many of the people on here. I'm late 30s and white and love decent hip hop having listened extensively to the likes of Ice Cube, Dr dre, snoop etc etc when younger and still really enjoy more recent artists like Jay-Z, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross etc. Kanye simply doesn't do it for me. So bland and clearly a total plonker.

Jakester
Kanye smashed it. The haters ain't ever gonna "get it". Pure Kanye last night. Just him in the light. Piled on all of the hits right from the gun. Loved it. This is music 2015 style.
I do beg to differ - if 'smashing it' is turning up and massively disrespecting an audience who've paid hundreds of pounds by not even doing them the courtesy of bothering to put on a show instead of singing along to a backing track. There were a number of false starts and cock ups, not all of them attributable to Lee Nelson. It was clearly shambolic and barely rehearsed. How he thought going on a cherry picker would assist is beyond me. I was quite impressed with the lighting rig though.
+1. iamtheelvy
I accept its not the style of music I like, but was willing to give it a fair chance. Was hoping for some epic show. Nope, even the finale just fizzled out. Watching Queen live at Wembley circa 1986 to get over it...
skankdelvar
This being a musicians' forum and me being a sort of musician I was going to make some observations about Mr West's musical performance. Then I realised that my age and ethnicity preclude me from holding a valid opinion or indeed any opinion at all. I apologise for being neither young nor black and shall in future restrict my adumbrations to the works of Mr Joe Dolce, Bucks Fizz and Mr Chesney Hawkes. Judo Chop
How come if you don't like Kanye you're automatically a "hater" and told you obviously have no taste in music? Seems a bit of a childish response to me, and if he really was as good as you say then you wouldn't feel the need to bury your heads up his arse and justify his clearly piss poor performance last night, because he wouldn't give a piss poor performance. GOAT indeed.

"haters" just sounds embarrassing coming out of the mouth of someone who isn't a thirteen year old internet troll. As for Kanye, better than I expected given what I'd read, takes balls to get up in front of a crowd like that on your own and he seemed to have them eating from the palm of his hand for the most part. The only thing that really bugs me about his is how often he doesn't ask permission when taking other peoples music to sample, seems to prefer letting the lawyers sort it out when the original artist is made aware.
