A mate of mine went in the 80's when Elvis Costello headlined, said it was one of the most boring sets he'd ever heard headline anything. As much a part of the circuit as Henley, Ascot, Wimbledon etc, posh kids partything, utter bollo*ks, makes me almost nostalgic for the 80's when you could jump the fence, sell drugs and be generally loutish. No lust in Jazz Posted June 29, 2015 Share Posted June 29, 2015 I went between 1987 and 1994 even having my honeymoon there in 1993 When I first went it was easy going - Two Stages and a lot of people being daft, when I went it wasn't for the music the music was just part of it. At some point the fence went up and for me (understanding the reasons for the fence - the locals (the same locals who would charge £5 for a hot shower)) it lost its attraction. West Yorkshire to Bath? might as well be the moon. I remember going to stay with an older cousin in London around 1971 or 72, it was like visiting a different country. timmo Posted June 29, 2015 Share Posted June 29, 2015 I only went twice. !992 and 1994. The Levellers were awesome that day. The problem with 1994, was the year Mean Fiddler took over. You couldn`t take your own drink in the field, and youy had to go through barriers and frisked to come from the camp site into the arena. I believe that is why the prices of tickets started to rise rapidly, as it become a lot more commercial. [/quote] My first year was 1992 and one of the first people we met after bunking in was the singer from The Levellers! I was a bit starstruck for about a minute, lovely guy, bummed some skins off him They were great that year. "If I could live the life I lead, then I would be a spaceman..." I was pretty happy with any of those, although I think it was 82 pissed it down and was generally pretty wet the whole time, so I think 81 was my favourite.
