Musicman20
It's been covered before somewhere on here, but what is the most efficient/cheapest way to buy from Thomann? They have some Fender guitars for almost £100-150 less than the UK now. Is there an option to buy through an Amazon account or did I imagine that? Basically, cheapest way without charges! bartelby
Last time I looked there was an Amazon option. Not tried it myself though...
cytania
Yes there's a 'use Amazon details' option that worked fine for me. Just watch out for your bank adding charges because it's a Euro transaction. Lloyds added £15 charges to a £467 mixer desk I got our band.
Muppet
Just check the charging and rates and use whichever works out cheapest for you. Thomann will invoice you in Euro - the GBP figures on their website are for illustration and sometimes use a suspect exchange rate so don't rely on these. I use this link to enter the Euro value and the conversion % my bank charges to determine how much it will actually cost me. yorks5stringer
I know my Mastercard charged me on 55 euros £1.20 so if Thomann are £100-£150 cheaper than others, even at £1000 you are still quids in.
Valhalalf
I bought some stuff on Thomann today and paid with PayPal. Thomann estimated it at about £176 but I actually paid £183 through PayPal.
spongebob
I've bought a few Gator hard cases over the past few years from Thomann - at various times they were around £120 over here in the UK, but only about £65 from them. Even with the postage charge, it was great. Over 100/150-ish, and it's free postage. Win-win!
lurksalot
I paid my last Thomman Bill with a card and paid 3% currency change charge of about £5.00 , that said they sent some UK kettle leads FOC , I whinged at them last time for not sending UK leads and they said I could buy them , er , no thanks . uncle psychosis
Absolute best way is with something like a Halifax Clarity Card. It's designed for foreign currency transactions. No commission, no fees, best exchange rate going. Pay it off at the end of the month and you pay nothing extra at all. ambient
I used amazon, I don't remember paying anything extra. I'm buying something new soon, but I'm waiting a few days to see if the exchange rate drops in my favour.
ben4343
I've made a couple of two hundred and a little bit euro transactions over the last half a year (to trigger free postage; spend money to save money... ...?). The estimated cost has only ever been a few pence (like, sub 10p) away from the actual cost. Maybe I have just been lucky? I use Nationwide, and just the 'normal transaction'. [/quote] This is a MasterCard and the exchange rate applied to the transaction is their rate which may or may not be the best at the time. Compared to Visa the difference on a day by day basis is negligible. Any MasterCard or Visa bank card that doesn't charge a fee is therefore better than one that does, but unless there's an added value 'service' from the bank, then, for any given transaction on the same day they should all be the same. discreet
I always use a Nationwide Debit Card at Thomann and I don't think I've ever paid any extra charges.
dmccombe7
Check with GAK as they have a price comparison offer that covers European shops as well and that way its simple. They might match Thomann. Dave
Frankieabbott
What typically could the full purchase price of an item be that is selling for example for £100 on the Thoman website? Are there any 'unseen' charges?
40hz
I just bought a Markbass 122 ny and paid exactly the amount converted into £'s. No hidden charges anywhere. Postage was free.
