Old Horse Murphy Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Some of you may recall I recently purchased a Fender American Vintage 64 Jazz bass in FSR a Daphne Blue. The guitar came with a very nice off White pickguard but it just looked a little bit anaemic to me: I managed to source a Fender tortoiseshell pickguard to try it out and really liked the look. However, given that the bass is nitro finished, I wanted something a little more "authentic". I managed to find a celluloid tortoiseshell pickguard from Thomann of all places and although a lot more expense than the Fender one, it was less than £60 and to my eyes, looks a lot more like the vintage tortoiseshell and slightly 3D rather than a bit pepperoni-like. And here it is. I'm very happy Edited June 29, 2015 by Old Horse Murphy Quote

ead Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Nice. I'm going to be looking for a similar thing for my CIJ 62RI Jazz also in Daphne Blue, will check out the Thomann website. Anywhere else I should look? Quote

They do aged ones too but they're quite a bit more expensive: https://m.thomann.de/gb/montreux_1448_real_celluloid_62.htm?o=1&ref=mrl_a_1&search=1435669588 Quote
discreet Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Er... I much prefer the original pg with that colour, sorry! Obviously I'm in the minority, so what do I know? The tort pg itself is a good 'un, however. Quote

ead Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Yeah, just hoping something hits my door mat tbh. Although the emails from the company seem in order and there is courier tracking info too so fingers crossed....will do pics when it all happens of course. Quote
bartelby Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 For me that looks much better now. Recently I've become rather partial to Daphne Blue or Seafoam Green with a nice tort plate. Quote
Treb Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 While I really like tort I do like the off white one better combined with Daphne Blue. Ah well it obviously floats your boat and that's what counts. Still a lovely bass, enjoy! Quote
ead Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 New lightly aged Montreux tort PG landed today. Very pleased with it and slotted straight on to the bass with minimum fuss. This one is a bit darker than the one on my RW Jazz but looks really nice in the flesh, the pic doesn't really do it justice (phone pic and general lack of operator talent). booboo Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Nice - I just bought an allparts one for a tenner less but it looks w***.I can't think of a nicer one than yours unless you spend (much) more and go for a spitfire or wd. Quote
