goonieman
Hi All, I got a new bass today, but unfortunately a few issues around the preamp being replaced (seller didn't know - apparently). http://basschat.co.uk/topic/265121-nbd-warwick-proline-1996-corvette-dodgy-electronics-help/ Anyway, I got some token cash back... after a fight... life goes on. Here's where I need advice. I want to get close to the original spec as possible. The MEC has a 2-band, with push-pull. Would this suffice? : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TONE-MONSTER-SEB2-A-Preamp-Guitar-J-P-Bass-Balance-Volume-Treble-Bass-12dB-/181780508614?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a52f66fc6 I can't find the 'big brands' doing anything similar. Now, next [niche] issue: where do I get the old school recessed warwick strap-locks? Modern Warwick strap locks don't fit these (seller sent them, but clearly never tested them... LOL) Will the dunlop flush mounts fits the current cavity? I'm also going to give it a fret level, crown and polish. That's down the line... Any thoughts welcome, cheers
tauzero
For the straplocks, have you tried Warwick? I don't know what the recessed ones are like but the ones Warwick have are at http://shop.warwick.de/?&c=35352310036&lang=en&smk=1&nm=D0405358001321517424A43801|Warwick|D0230547001321517430A46050&modul=shop&site=shop_overview
goonieman
Thanks Tauzero - but those are the new ones. I have them - they don't fit...
LukeFRC
Dunlops fit in the resessed ones if that's what on your bass. Warwick one's should do too - not being daft but you are pressing the button when you go to put them in? Any 2 band preamp will do - you will just need to wire a push pull switch on it to do the whole push pull thing.

bartelby
I used both Warwick and Dunlop straplocks with my Corvette. As to what pre, I picked up a MEC 3 band on here a few years back. Got a 2nd stacked knob for a vol/blend, so I did't have to drill a 4th hole
goonieman
yeah, good luck to me for finding a 2nd hand MEC! I reckon the tone monster is the way to go. It has great reviews: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/tone-monster-sbk-preamps-anybody-here-use-them.990243/
Graham
Warwick have a pretty good forum I believe - might be a good place to look for a second hand MEC
Funky Dunky
If I were putting a preamp in a bass and had a few quid to spend, it would be the Aguilar OBP-1 or a Spector Tone Pump. Both of those are monsters.
