What about a white P bass with a Jazz pup?
[/quote]

You mean a P/J? Not the same as two Jazz pups... You can't blend a P pup with a J pup in the same way. IMHO, anyway. :)

Ohh... Yes, that is indeed very nice, but I want a P-width neck! :)

Thanks to Rumple (Dave) for a link to a UK bass body builder... they asked for pics of the proposed body and I was fortunate enough to find these pics of what I want (on eBay US)...

It will be interesting to see what their quote is like. :)

Hi discreet
I have been experimenting this afternoon with my basses, I've put a P bass neck on my jazz body. Your more than welcome to give it a try to see what you think of the combo.

That's very kind of you, thanks! :) But I'm in London so it may be impractical... How does it play? I'm assuming a P neck is heavier than a J neck - are you noticing increased neck-dive?

Well given that a Jazz body is usually about 15 - 20% heavier (IME) I very much doubt it! This may be just that I've had some heavier Jazz's but I think the extra pickup adds a little mass to the bridge area (depends on the pickup - some are lighter than others. In general 2 Jazz pickups are about twice the weight of a split P pickup).

Hi
It play's ok. I'm not a huge fan of P necks so I couldn't gel with it really. Regarding neck dive, It's certainly more evident when playing sat down without a strap. Playing with a strap it's well balanced.
When I had both necks off there was quite a bit of difference in weight, The P neck being heavier.
Hope this helps

If anything, a Jazz width neck on a P-bass seems to be quite a popular idea, so I reckon you shouldn't have any trouble finding a buyer for the leftover body and neck.

Yup, my bitsa P bass has a J neck. My stupid little fingers prefer pencilnecks.

Also my bitsa P has an All Parts J neck.

I have read that Jazzes with P necks tend to have an interesting tone.

I was wondering about that. I have a theory that chunkier necks produce a thumpier sound, but have no proof, of course...

An oblique thought - I had a Squier Silver Series Jazz and the neck on that was 40mm at the nut. Felt exactly the same as the Silver Series Precision I had.

OK, then... lateral thinking. This G&L L2000 with maple neck, 1.75" (44.5mm) nut width, ash body, twin humbuckers switchable every which way and with a 3-band active/passive circuit coming in at £425..? I'm no fan of blueburst, but every other box is ticked...

IMO the Sire is not even in the same league as the G&L abominations :-)

It is as far as crappy headstocks go... ;)

I really like the G&L headstock, don't see the problem at all.
It appeals to the (now ex)surfer in me though I s'pose. Reminds me of cresting waves, dude! :)

Then it should appeal to the (now ex)alcoholic in me. Reminds me of a bottle-opener...
