miles'tone Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015
Then it should appeal to the (now ex)alcoholic in me. Reminds me of a bottle-opener...
Quote
Byo Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015
I was wondering about that. I have a theory that chunkier necks produce a thumpier sound, but have no proof, of course...
Same thing I have heard. Tim C from RATM loves his P-necked Jazz basses. Quote
discreet Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) OK then, another sideways step - nut width 42mm... anyone tried these? They are quite affordable... MM-style humbuckers are switchable to singe-coil too, so should be possible to get J-type tones, if necessary. Marvin Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Low End Bee used to have an RV4...you could stalk his inbox Quote
Twigman Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I've got 3 Ps with jazz necks....my little hands prefer a jazz neck. I'm sure you'll have no problem moving it. Quote

Really good value for money. The neck felt extremely close to the dimensions on my P Bass. I converted the tone controls to one master tone and and a rotary coil tap. The pickups had a lot of output so even wound all the way down to single coil mode they were a bit beefier than a weedy, I mean growly jazz bass. Great fun bass. I wish I hadn't moved it on. I've got a P bass with a jazz neck. It doesn't sound all that much different to me. It does make my left hand ache after an hour or so though. Quote

I have a previous incarnation of these. They're *ok*, but that's about it. I tinkered, I modified, I had fun with it... but it feels "budget". I haven't tried these newer ones, 'though. Quote

Failing that, get one anyway and move it on if I don't like it. I'm only considering it as a friend of mine had a Vantage and toured it all over the UK and Europe for about two years and it stood up very well, sounded good too. But plan 'A' (a G&L L2000 or M2000) is only about £150 extra and I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with one of those, so... I don't know! Depends how much loot is in the bass fund when the GAS gets too much for me!! Edited July 6, 2015 by discreet Quote

phil.c60 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Can't see this mentioned, but the Squier P Bass Special is a PJ bass, so a P bass body + the extra pickup, with a Jazz neck so I'm sure someone would be interested in a straight Squier P with a Jazz neck. I certainly would have been but now I have a Hot Rod P and a straight Jazz so that's got it all covered! Quote
DarkHeart Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 As I mentioned in an earlier post I bought a MIJ P with a knackered neck with the intention of fitting a Jazz neck to it that I bought off here a week or so earlier.................here it is, I`ll post a nbd thread explaining the hassles ive encountered to get to this!
