skidder652003
Ive got a few cables that could do with replacing, but ive always fancied repairing them and fitting some with right angled jacks etc.. Ive an old soldering iron in the garage that i've used in the past to fix some stuff but its a bit rubbish TBH. Can anyone recommend a starters kit that includes fixing clamps? Also whats the correct wattage for this sort of work? And finally(!) what's the best solder type and guage for cable repairs? Many thanks!!! I have a 60w one as well and it is super fast.
Dad3353
For home use, I'd strongly recommend a solder station over a simple crayon iron. The comfort in use and safety (less risk of burning the worktop or worse...) are worth it. More expense initially, but a decent one should last a lifetime; maybe more..! Not the same as having an iron in one's kit, but if there's a dozen jacks to connect, a station is a real boon.
Maude
I can thoroughly recommend the solder station in KiOgons post. I picked the same one up when maplins were doing them for thirty quid, very quick and efficient.
