How did Chris Squire (RIP) get his sound on The silent wings of freedom

I think part of his sound at that time involved a Mutron phaser pedal but not sure exactly which model. After doing some digging it appears to be the Mutron III which has been emulated by another company (Amplitude?) more recently as the Mu-III is long gone. You might find this useful; http://miguelbass.com/tag/mutron/

There's an Eventide harmoniser on the bass on this track. I read this years ago in an article about recording that album.

Chris also used the Mutron as mentioned above (seen this confirmed in an interview).

Edited, because I think the Mutron plays a big part in the sound!

Wow the rig rundown video in that link is interesting it is generally quoted that Chris used an old Marshall Superbass amp, but that one is too old it must be a straight JMP (guitar) amp it even has a presence control!!

i think you'll nailed it!!

I wonder if a slippter would help as I don;t have a stereo bass... a bit of phaser and and chorus one channel, Envelope filter the other ( can;t afford a mutron!!)

something clean and hi-fi sounding would be nice... theres probably a bit of delay and reverb in there as well!! Styrmon or eventide should do that trick!!

Cheers people that been very useful!!
