Grangur
I've got a fretless LX Streamer. I'd say it sounds like dark chocolate... if that makes sense?

You would probably be able to get a more bright sound with ground-wounds or round-wounds. A feature of a fretless, any fretless, is the absence of frets meaning you don't get the hard surface of a fret causing a break in the string length. So, I doubt you'd get a very "twangy" sound from any fretless. Besides I wouldn't describe a cello as "twangy".

White Cloud
What happened to my reply yesterday to this topic?? There seems little point in taking the time to reply to threads like this to offer advice in good faith only for them to disappear. This place is really going downhill. Dazed
Good era for Warwicks if you like the neck profile from that time of course. £1500 is very top end, as wArwickhunt said- anyone would be lucky to sell one for that, but it's retail so maybe that evens the price out. Unless you know you like them is suggest you try a few Warwicks from different eras to get a feel for them. It may take a while to find 2 from the same era to compare as they aren't the most common! My Stage 1 custom shop is anything but twangy, it has a 'Warwick' sound and harmonics everywhere.

I live on south coast very few shops and virtually no fretless's!! I'll end up buying blind I know it I do have a Warwick a Bootsy Colllins artist series Korean... got it for a steal at Thomann, orange disco stars!! Its great, needs the frets ground a bit, and a proper set up but a lovely twangy sound.... probably unlike typical Warwick, I remember a friend of mind had one and it was very woody, nice, but I want twang, whatever that actually is!! Machines
BassDirect tend to be at the highest end of the market but find somewhere else as well stocked in Europe. If it had been there 6 months they might take a drop but not so soon.

[/quote] I think this means you'll be very lucky to find anywhere else as well stocked.. Depending how stuck on a specific make or model you are, fish around the specialist shops in UK and makers, too. Also keep your eyes on the Marketplace on BC.. With a £1300 budget there'll most likely be something good on sale either now or in the near future. Put up a Wanted ad on here, and state your likes and dislikes. BC is a fantastic (or terrible, depending how you look at it) place for folks changing basses!

roman_sub
I've got a 1988 W streamer fretless, great bass, especially if you wire in an additional battery to make electronics run off 18v :-) I would say somewhere <£1k would seem reasonable for pricing, depending on condition, etc etc
zawinul
I just got almost the exactly the same bass a stremer mark II, lined fretless, bubibga ..same high price!!
