I've never owned a G&L and profess that I've always been put off by the headstock...I didn't know until quite recently that the original headstocks were smooth babies like these. Now I'm getting a bit of GAS.

Honestly, these old G&L's deserve much more appreciation than they seen to receive.

I love the vibe of my old Fender P's. I love my Wal for its Walness. I love my Dingwall for the build quality and components but for me, none of them have the presence or power of the G&L's.

Blowout deal Tribute L-2000 arrived from Thomann yesterday morning. Can't say it feels that much different at all from the USA
L-2000 I sold last December. Really nice bass, especially considering the rockbottom price I paid for it.

OK, G&L people - I am thinking that maybe a G&L would be the right thing for me, so was thinking of getting a G&L <x>2500 tribute.

I am after a more P bass sound for a covers band I am in, but I prefer 5 strings to 4, and I can't stand the neck of a P bass. What is most likely to be the closest <x> to what I am looking for, ie, is it an L2500 or a M2500

I scored this little beauty for Christmas. Thanks Mrs cocco!

Needless to say I'm besotted and now I want an M series to go with it.

Its a Tribute and was a bargain from Thomann but it punches above its weight.

I sold this beauty in December just to get money to buy a blue Lakland JO5:

I was planning on buying a Fender Mexican P bass as a back up but I just find G&L's too hard to resist :)

Happy to have another in the house, an 89 SB2

We all have basses we wish we had not sold but I miss my JB-2 (Hutton bought it) and to a lesser extent my SB-2 which had to go when I moved to 5-strings (part of keeping domestic harmony: 1 in, 1 out). I don't expect to ever replace my JB but is there any love for the LB100? I have seen a rather pretty used one up for sale and I am in credit domestically. It is never going to replace the JB but I do like precisions.

I imported this Wunkay from a Basstalk member who had given money to charity to help a friend by selling this bass. It's a 1981 L1000 in a lovely Tealey sort of blue with a beautifully golden maple neck (I just HAVE to have a maple fingerboard!. For it's age it's in beautiful condition. I'm having a purge on basses, but this one if the keeper.
The massive tone (especially in omg mode) you would expect. Got Trubass strings at the moment, maybe a need something a bit less soft sounding.

After an expensive diversion into the world of 5-strings I have returned to the world of G&L. I picked up a Tribute JB-2 and MJ-4 last week from The Great British Bass Lounge.

The JB is amazingly good for the money. One of the basses I stupidly sold was a USA JB-2 but I honestly think this as good and the pickups if anything warmer and more to my taste. The big band I play with really noticed the difference when I used it at this week's rehearsal.

The MJ-4 is meant to be my gig bass. Compare it the Tribute and it is poor value for money. Compare it other USA custom shop jazz basses and it is a bargain.

My advice is if you find a G&L you bond with, never sell it. Otherwise you will every now and again have a wave of regret wash over you. Why oh why was I so silly? [polite version]

Just this, my SB2 isn't getting much use now I'm playing five strings again (loving my Tribute L2500), so on paper selling or trading it for another five string would make sense. However, the number of people who seem to regret selling one of these really puts me off moving it on.

Those jazzes look great, would love to give an MJ5 a go

The MJ has all the makings of a great working bass. The preamp frequencies sound good to my ears and the controls are not over-sensitive like some Aguilar preamps. I like the Ash body but do not miss fancy finishes because, as mentioned, this is meant to be a working bass. My previous JB-2 was too pretty, if anything.

I sold a 1983 USA SB-2 (to gary mac, coincidentally - but not the one he just sold, confusingly) and I really regret it. There aren't that many around and they are killer, killer gigging basses. Huge power and presence and lovely to play. Don't have that weird pointy bit on the headstock, either!
