JwK94 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Hi All, As mentioned in the title, i'm hoping to acquire some sort of very small and light cab if they exist. I don't have a car so have to rely on public transport for most gigs. I play in pretty much all settings but this would mostly be used for jazz and other small gigs. So basically, are there any small (as in 1x10 or close to) and light cabs out there that don't sound terrible? Cheers, Jack Quote
discreet Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) I'll probably be accused of being a fanboi, but Barefaced make some very nice small, light cabs. Check out the Super Midget: http://barefacedbass...uper-Midget.htm EA also have one or two cabs that would suit, but I have no experience of them. Check out the Wizzy 10: http://www.eaamps.co...il.asp?REC_ID=4 And how could I forget Schroeder? Mykesbass Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 If a secondhand Yamaha ever comes up, can't remember the model number, but I used to gig their BB500H and a 110 cab. Tiny loud and well built. Quote
Mykesbass Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Here's a link to a combo version of the Yamaha - don't quite know what he's getting at about the extra 4x12 cab, and I wouldn't go for the combo as it was early class d, pretty much unrepairable if it goes wrong, but at least you can see the cab. They have cropped up on here every now and again. chris_b Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 A Barefaced Midget or Super Compact and a good trolley will get you a mobile rig with more tone and volume in the smallest space. Quote
hubrad Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Euphonic Audio crop up used from time to time.. I have a CXL110 - 1x10 with concentric tweeter. Remarkable for its size! Quote
Muppet Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I'd consider the Markbass CMD121P. Smaller and lighter than the BBT500, 12" speaker and great sound. Quote
Ghost_Bass Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Ashdown Mi10 is a very decent cab with a reasonable output. There's always the combo option, from Markbass to AER or, if you can find a used one, the Ibanez/Harley Benton/Red Sub 500W 1x10 combo is awesome for it's size and weight. Quote
landwomble Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 TC BG250 208 is a great little combo and cheap, too. Toneprint effects and a tuner mean less to carry as well... Quote
Owen Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I have been messing with a Mackie SRM350 10" cab recently. With a decent preamp it sounds WAY better than it has any right to. Quote
CamdenRob Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) I have a wizzy 10 and it sounds fantastic... deep low bass and surprising volume and projection. I've paired it with a GK MB200, a popular pairing I underatand. I cart mine around London without any problems whatsoever. Edited July 14, 2015 by CamdenRob Quote
4-string-thing Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Markbass NY121 or if you need a combo the CMD121P, both small light and powerful. Too big? Try the Minimark! Quote
JwK94 Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 Thanks for the suggestions. May have forgotten to mention I don't have a great deal of cash but it isn't super urgent. Also thought it's worth mentioning i'm looking mainly for a cab not a combo. And would likely be pairing up with a Markbass traveller 151p for louder gigs. Cheers Quote
landwomble Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 if it's any help, the TC BG250 amp is a 250W one and removable (with a couple of screws) from the cab. It's also the only one in the BG range that has an 8ohm cab, so you can drive a second cab with it for bigger gigs. I use mine with an Eden Nemesis 1x15 when I need more volume... Quote

Cheers
As nice as the EA Wizzy 10 is, the 4 ohm impedance makes it less suitable for pairing with anything else unless your amp will run at 2 ohms (which Markbass don't IIRC). Quote
Muppet Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 As mentioned before as you're after a cab, the Markbass NY121. 12", light, with tweeter and control, solid recessed handle. Quote

4-string-thing Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Ashdown Mi10? or Eden EX10? The Ashdown is only £149 at GAK at the minute! And the Eden at Bass Direct is £185. Quote
BassBod Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 The Crazy 8 is a great little cab, that provides real low end, not just lots of mid to make it seem loud. Its an American GreenBoy design, but Tricky Audio make it here in the UK. I had one without the tweeter and didn't miss it. Quote
victor5string Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Phil Jones C4, is a nice sounding and very small cab Quote
eude Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I can vouch for the Ashdown Mi10. It's a lovely little cab and plenty powerful. Can get a little nasal at volume, but that's easy fixed on your amp. Two of them as actually quite a force to be reckoned with. I believe the Mi10 and the Eden equivalent are made in the same factory, but the Ashdown seems a lot more solid, and a bit classier with it's carbon effect tolex vs the Eden's carpet. Eude Quote
