SICbass Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 A superb lyric, and what a voice? I've never even heard of him before. Thanks so much for that. I'm definitely going to check him out now. Quote
SICbass Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 This Paul Simon song features Tony Levin on bass and I think the harmonica solo is Toots Thielemann. I love the transition to the bridge/chorus bit "Then the night turned cold..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U078jX6Z6fo Quote
the boy Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 not the first time round but i think it was the early 80s when I heard this and it blew me away..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFo8-JqzSCM Quote
the boy Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015
That's poetry. . . . . .
Blew me away. I was trying to think of stuff that was cool or stuff I carried with me over the years but when it all boiled down I was left with mr Berry. Also there were a string of Levi's adds in the 80s - 90s that had some great tracks too and each of those really got me as well but I think Jonny b Goode was the first that really caught me off guard. SICbass Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I don't know if it's already appeared in the thread (too lazy to check all 5 pages), but how about Barber's Adagio for Strings. Often over-used but still beautiful. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=izQsgE0L450 Quote
AustinArto Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57Ykv1D0qEE Heard it long before I became a bass player, wasn't even aware of the bass as an instrument, certainly didn't know who Bob Babbitt was. What a beautiful recording though. Quote

Maude Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 First heard this on a tape someone lent me when I was younger. Laying in bed in a dark room with headphones on, I really should still do that but don't, The guitar just took my breath away, so amazingly sad and melancholic, yet angry and beautiful. Just utterly captivating. http://youtu.be/dh3bleXWaCk Quote
Subbeh Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I can't put my finger on what exactly it is about this song that just reverberates within me like nothing else I've ever heard. Quote
