chrisanthony1211
The auctions finished, but is this a genuine 59????? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=331565251310&globalID=EBAY-GB Edited July 19, 2015 by chrisanthony1211
Hobbayne
Bit difficult to see. He has only put up one picture, and not a very good one either. It could be anything!
chrisanthony1211
I didn't realise you couldn't see more of the pictures via the link, here are the rest. I thought that the pick guard was unlikely to be original, he listed the pots as being original until I pointed out that they were from 1983. The pick ups look good to me? Obviously a new nut and a refin and refret, I thought the case looked period correct and in good condition, obviously no neck stamp which would be correct for a 59 aswell! I'm was tempted to get this with the view of returning it to its former glory, I even found some 59 pots for sale! The weight of this is 7lb which made me think that this would be ash, I think that at this time fender were only using ash on blondes, which would mean a gold / tort pick guard and a good blonde refin! Muppet
He says it's got the shielding plate. I didn't think the gold pick guards came with them so wouldn't that suggest a tort? When did rosewood come in, was it around that time?
chrisanthony1211
Yeah slab rosewood from about 59-62 so that's correct.
Rick's Fine '52
Case is an 80's reissue, not original as he states. A lot of dollar for something with so little known authenticity. Body date in the pickup cavity would help if its not been painted over. Most black refins hide extra routing, which could also explain the lost pickguard. Rick's Fine '52
Underside of pickups should be black. To me, the neck, tuners and pickups look right, or at least period correct, the other bits are repro, the body would need stripping for further comment.
