The Fishman Fission Bass Powerchord can do the job for you.

To the note you're playing you can add an octave above, a 4th below, or a 5th above. You can choose just one of these, or you can use two, or even all three of them. It really beefs up your sound so that the guitar player can go off on one without the whole sound seeming empty. Here's a demo:

It really does make a difference!

I bought this about 3 years ago, and then almost immediately left the 3-piece to join a 5-piece - where emptiness was not a problem! As a result, this unit is as good as new. It can run off a 9v battery or a centre-negative 9v 200mA minimum mains supply (not included).

Spec details on the Fishman website:

Any questions, please drop me a PM.

I bought an Akai Unibass a couple of weeks ago; push it through a Digitech guitar multifx with chorus/delay/reverb etc, and into a guitar amp. After a few pints at a trio gig it not only fattened the overall sound and filled in for lead breaks, it even made it through a couple of tracks as the main guitar. Which was weird, but cool.

Anyway, I'd love to compare the two pedals. Don't suppose you've ever tried the Akai?
