Mykesbass
That was my general drift. Boys of Summer has and continues to be hammered since birth. You couldn't pay me enough to play it. Hey Ya is an easy set filler for those who want to stick something post 2000 in. Sick of hearing it. VKTRS is a bit out there, but I play in an 80's band and I go and see 80's bands and it's a given that it will be played.
Amazing isn't it, I don't think I've heard Boys of Summer, will take your point on Hey Ya though, you're right, it is a bit of a reluctant nod to modernism!! tauzero
We do the theme to Friends - I'll be there for you, Rembrandts. Other band used to do Feeler - Feeling a moment, and Razorlight - America.

EliasMooseblaster
A big +1 to Up Around the Bend. Another suggestion which used to go down a storm with my old blues/rock trio: Time by Pink Floyd. If the lead guitarist is up to the job, every hero-in-their-own-bedroom guitarist will be queuing up to shake his hand after the set. ern500evo
In a blues rock band I used to play with we did Fortunate Son by CCR, always went down well despite a lot of the punters not actually knowing who it was!

JTUK
Never really worry about it as long as it is a good song. If you play it well and it sits with the others, it will work. We used to do Good Souls and another couple of Starsailor songs and we also found Chrissie Hind's 'middle of the road' got them started ...and we'd never put that later than 3rd song in the set. Life during wartime as well... as it was so dancey. I don't recall many gigs where we didn't do it and everyone danced...but I doubt more than a couple of people ever knew the song.. bassace
I did a jazz gig on Sunday at Blenheim Palace Orangery, gtr/dbass/drums. The guitarist threw in Stevie's Lately. I think it sounded OK and it was great to play.

CHW
What a wonderful world- Joey Ramone's version. Most people don't know it, but do know the song. It does seem to go down well most of the time. Oh, the acoustic trio I play in does Boys of Summer
