The last setting sounds promising: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot6jQTYdSCY There's also the Para Driver which some people prefer because it has a Mids knob (like the VT Bass, unlike the Bass Driver)... Adee
The Tech 21 VT is superb, the guitarist in my band has one as he plays bass too and I have used and fiddled with his for a whole practice session. VERY versatile plenty of mids to play with. Better than the Sansamp Bass Driver as you tend to get a bit lost in the mix if you not careful. Thats my two penneth = TECH 21 VT Bass Edited September 1, 2008 by Adee
Kev
LOL here we go gain... IMO The PD7 is the best you can buy for that kind of price. That's some PHAT, punchy, LOW-mid-rich distortion. I think you need to buy a bigger combo. Downsides are it kills the dynamics a bit (sounds overly compressed). The Distortion setting is very good, the Overdrive setting is ok but the Attack setting is useless. I think neither the PD7 or the ODB-3 lose low end. However, the ODB-3 ADDS high end, so maybe that's why people have that impression. But all this is irrelevant to the topic at hand, as I don't think you can get even closer to that tone with any of them...
we obviously have VERY different opinions when it comes to distortion, i think we should leave it at that! after having a more closer listen, i think im inclined to agree its a sansamp, but still think that the fact that its a p pickup is key to that tone
Ant
yeah, the tone is all about the p pickup, with some nice valvey overdrive.

Thanks for all your posts
You should never name drop. Brad Pitt taught me that.
JoeS
According to an interview from a while back, he uses an Ampeg SVT Classic and Boss ODB3. I agree with Wayne though

KevB
You are being a c*nt but you play punk, what do you expect? Seriously though, they are a good honest hard workin classic blues rock band and really need to be seen live for best effect. Hell of a singer. Check out Back Door Slam as well. danlea
Just to chuck in my thoughts (probably far too late), it does sound like some multi-valve gnarl (so yeah, Ampeg SVT...) but that's not to say you can't get a similar tone from your Boss. The main thing is to get the extreme EQ shaping - play about with EQ post distortion and blend the dry signal.
