nash
I've just bought a Pedaltrain Metro 16 and Volto. I soldered up some patch cables with the standard Neutrik right angled jack but they just look massive on my small board. Any suggestions for other types/brands? uncle psychosis
Lots of people like the "pancake" jacks such as the Hicon J63MA05 for patch cables. Other brands make similar low profile ones. I've just ordered some from Thomann and they should get delivered today. I'll report back when I actually try to use them to make some cables.
citymariner
I'd seen those jacks on Rig Rundowns on Premier Guitar and wondered what they were called. That's given me a nice little summer project without busting the bank! Cheers!
uncle psychosis
I made up some patch cables with those hicon ones over the weekend - very straightforward, highly recommended.
nash
Cheers for the feedback. I was about to order 50 because a friend wants me to rewire his big board on a fair budget. 50 of those worked out at about £75 and 50 switchcraft worked out at £
Treb
EBS makes nice ones: pcf series in 10, 18, 28 and 58 cm. great patch cables for pedal board use, the flat connector allows positioning of the effects really close together. These ones seem really good---solidly built, and they have the added bonus of having solder connections for both signal and shield (some cheaper ones need you to solder directly to the case for the shield). They also have a little plastic "cover" to help protect the signal connection from grounding on the outer case. I made up four patch cables using these and some Sommer Spirit XXL cable, every one worked first time. I haven't any experience of other pancake jacks but these ones will do me absolutely fine. Musicman20
I bought a load of Fender Custom Shop patch cables and they are excellent.
Lebowsky
EBS are both the smallest, lowest profile and cheapest you'll ever find. Edited July 31, 2015 by Lebowsky
+1 I managed to make room for two more pedals on my board by swapping my old patch cables for these.
livingbasshead
I use these ones from Maplins with Van Damme XKE cable http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/635mm-side-entry-mono-jack-plug-yl03d I bought a load in bulk and have been making patch cables and selling them on ebay at different lengths (10cm, 15cm, 30cm, 50cm and 1m). If anyone is interested I can make custom sizes too. I stuck an advert up on the 'affiliates' page - 10% discount (i.e. 10% less than the ebay price). These little jacks in my opinion are just as good with regards to sound and are very low profile. Guest FretNoMore
George L where I can, EBS where it's tighter, and really slim pancakes where I have to. My board is crammed full so every little space saving counts.
