Gotta recommend Pete Allen for anyone in Warwickshire, very good service and sorted out my high action with no trouble at all. Good rates, especially for big works such as re-fretting.

Always wondered what Steve Preston was like. I don't generally like finding out the hard way (bad experiences in the past). BTW completely off topic, but that's some avatar!!! ;)
I agree, there MUST be someone in W Yorks/Bratford/Leeds/Wakey/Cleckhudderfax/Pontefract/Cas area who can help me with my embarrasing problem??? I bought a semi acoustic bass which has an action like the Humber Bridge, needs fixin before it goes back on evilbay.
I had heard there was a bass luthier in Dean Clough, Halifax, anyone know any more?
There was a great guitar/bass tech / luthier at Leeds College Of Music (at least when I was there in the late '80s / early '90s) called Ted Lee - I think he lived in Bradford/Ilkley?
..But surely the guys at The Music Room in Cleckheaton will know somebody? ;)

I noticed a lack of luthiers up my way & had spotted these chaps earlier if you want it to add to your list...

http://www.baileyguitars.co.uk/

They're based in Maybole in Fife but I know nowt about them. Have been considering building a bass with them tho.

Anybody on here used them before (or even heard of em)?

I haven't heard of them before, but Maybole is in Ayrshire.
The other coast from Fife

There must be more up here surely ?

I haven't had anything done to what I have left yet, so I can't help with a recommendation, apart from Jimmy Moon defretting an Aria TSB550 years ago.
I heard he was concentrating on custom builds and no more repairs, but I'm well out of touch :)

God knows where I got Fife from :) I'd been looking at maps for most of the morning (planning a drive).

I've never heard of Moon for ages & didn't know he was still building. I might have a wee search later.

I fully trust in Rüdiger Ziesemann from Bassline Basses in Krefeld, North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. He did a splendid job with my WAL 5 and our "Hybrid" WAL fretless project (http://www.bassline-bass.de/).

I can recommend Nigel Stockbridge in Richmond, North Yorks.

http://www.nigelsguitarworkshop.co.uk/

I've had a lot of work done over the years though not on bass's. He can repair or set up anything, very clever man who deals with a lot of famous people.

Also Steve Suggitt. Lives in West Ayton near Scarborough is another luthier I have used. He builds all kinds of guitars and does repairs and setups. Very talented man.

http://www.chapelguitars.com/

And finally, Martin Dixon

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/mdguitars/

Can do anything. I've seen bass's that he's made and they are simply stunning! He's in Otley near Leeds.

Hope that helps.

Tom.

You appear once an established member who has used your services as a bass luthier recommends you :)

I take my basses to a chap called Jack Ellis up in Salford, so if you're in the Manchester area he's a possibility. He's a top guy to deal with and I've never had any problems, always documents exactly what he does and will re-adjust your bass free of charge if the set-up isn't quite right or it settles in and starts buzzing or anything... I think he's on here as "gabson" or you can get hold of him on 07706828122 - tell him I sent ya =)
