He can repair or set up anything, very clever man who deals with a lot of famous people. Also Steve Suggitt. Lives in West Ayton near Scarborough is another luthier I have used. He builds all kinds of guitars and does repairs and setups. Very talented man. I've seen bass's that he's made and they are simply stunning! He's in Otley near Leeds. Hope that helps. MoonBassAlpha
Has Steve Kendall, near Oxford (East Hanney) had a mention yet? He only works part time luthiering and does a nice job for a very reasonable price. He also specialises in Valve amps pre 1980. He's done a tricky repair, some nice fret end finish, and a Laney Supergroup 100W head repair for me. He builds the occasional bass and guitar too. shantijoe
Hi All I'm looking for someone in N.Wales where I now live. In London I used Dave Wilde (grumpy but good) and tried a well-known and recommended guy from this list in Manchester who did a very poor job ( I prefer not to name him in public). So any reliable sources for N. Wales? thanks bass brothers

Has lots of work so sometimes his queue to get things done is substantial, but he has had my Les Paul and Precision bass since Friday (11th October?) and I've been told they're nearly finished which is good enough for me. Lozz196
TJC Guitars in Stevenage, Herts, if not already mentioned on this thread. www.tjcguitars.co.uk Terry did a respray on a black Fender Precision, to Arctic White (nitro, mmmmmm) charged £150, when everywhere else was looking at £300. I had my VC set up and some work done on a (buzzing) fret that had popped (possibly during its journey from California) recently. Work was done to a high standard at a reasonable price (£80 all in) and the turnaround time was about 4 days. I would recommend him to anybody in the North Herts area ( in fact anybody, anywhere) needing some work done. Ditto on him being a top bloke!! Have fun finding his house which is tucked away in Stevenage!! (his address did not appear on the map I had...) Anybody having some work done can pass on my thanks to Terry again .. TheGreek
Afterthought...Brandoni's in Wembley came highly recommended by a friend. As well as repairs they also have a stock of late 60s Vox and EKOs, including what I think are one of the most beautiful basses ever, the EKO BX7, which they will put together to your specs at prices well below what you see (inferior copies?) being sold on eBay. Was so tempted... check out the website: www.brandoniguitars.co.uk
ThomBassmonkey
Just a note about Nigel Roberts, he did a repair on a Warwick for me a few months back, really nice guy, stuck to the original quote he told me even though the bass needed more work doing than he originally thought. BUT (and it's IMO a big but) he did take liberties with my bass. As much as he thought he was helping, he didn't even mention to me that he was going to drill the nut (apparently to stop the top part slipping). He didn't tell me that he'd broken the tabs off (it's a just-a-nut, he'd managed to break both sides) either. After I questioned him about it, he just pointed out that it happens as though it was ok that he'd done it. After a bit of bugging, he did say he could order a new one in (I'm assuming he was offering to replace it rather than suggesting at my expense), but by then I just wanted to get it home (the bass it's self was the result of a sour deal on here so I hadn't actually had a chance to play it properly) and left it (my bass is still in that condition). Like I said, nice guy, he did the work he said he would for the fee he said he'd charge, but he did damage my bass and drill holes, neither of which I was warned about until I had the bass in my hands again. If you do use him, I'd make sure you spell out exactly what you want doing and check your bass carefully when you get it back. I hope mine was a one off incident (I seem to have bad luck that way) because the guy was genuinely nice. Pow_22
+1 for Jacks Instrument Services, Salford. Just picked up my Retrovibe bass and its exactly how i wanted it. Jack made a new bone nut, fret level and polish (inc sharp ends), full set up (inc electrics clean) and even knocked me up a new TRC from some scraps of scratchplate he had knockin round. Action is briliant, exactly as i wanted as he took time to ask about my playing style and recomended how he thinks it should be set up. Comes with a check-card tag which lists everything that has been done and includes a 2 month guarantee on work. If i want it tweaking within this time its free. Very knowledgeable and had a good chat about various basses n valve amps. Will be taking my pride n joy, my main bass Burns Bison for some new pots soon. That is as much as a recomendation as anyone can get, i wont let most people even TOUCH the bison!
