Me And My Bass
Latest gumtree buy, at a time I am cutting down instruments in favour of the new mortgage deposit!! April 1982 Ibanez Blazer . . But in P/J configuration? I thought the P/J configuration was only found on the Roadster & Roadater II . . Wee bit of research online brings up a few folk saying they also have a pre Roadster P/J Blazer bass. Finish has been stripped, other than that everything looks original . . The Jazz bridge pup is ok, does the Jazz burp when solo'd, but the Precision pup is amazing!! Fat punchy 70's sounding goodness. Any thoughts guys? Possibly a bitsa Roadater with Blazer neck? I can't see it myself everything is original and sits well. discreet
Nice score. Where's Truckstop? I think he had one or two of these at some point.
Truckstop
Very unusual, I've never seen one! Flat Eric's probably in a better position to offer more information. I don't think it's a bitsa, what's the point in sticking a Blazer neck on a Roadster? Looks lovely though, them brass bridges really add plenty of snap to the tone
Jono Bolton
Could just be that the Jazz pickup was added to the Blazer at a later date? The P/J Roadsters I've seen have had a jack on the pickguard and three knobs, I'd wager that the side mounted jack on yours was added when the J pickup was. Disclaimer: Total guesswork. wotsy
Cool looking Bass. I'm after a Blazer myself, just waiting for one to crop up at the right price and hopefully near to me. That looks in really good nic, nice one.
gjones
A bass player I know, has a Blazer with a P/J. He bought it new and added the Jazz pickup sometime in the early 90's. This is him and his bass. Edited July 26, 2015 by gjones
Me And My Bass
On closer inspection (taking it apart) I think the Jazz pup was defo an addition . . BUT . . The wiring harness, pickups are all matched & original looking + it doesn't look like the Jazz pup space was cut at a different time (change of finish etc). I am leaning towards thinking Ibanez took a stock Blazer in the factory and made the addition. Again I could be wrong!! LoL I giged it last night and enjoyed it, but I think it could possible be getting moved on in the classifieds shortly. I am not 100% sold on the headstock shape.
I was about to comment on how nice the headstock was, I personally love the headstock shape and design on these. I'm also curious about that 70s precision tone, I know these basses have a nice crunchy aggressive p tone sometimes.
FlatEric
Hi. It's a Blazer pretending to be an RB650 and looks a very nice job. This is an RB650. http://flatericbassa...e-and-davy.html You can see the subtle differences. You have a very nice bass there!!! I would hang onto it! Edited July 27, 2015 by FlatEric
Me And My Bass
Thanks for that, yeah it's really similar. All round it's a great bass, sounds amazing! But alas I have just listed it in the for sale section . . I just don't get on with the headstock shape! I am vain!

Grahambythesea
I had one of those back in the 80's, but fretless with lined maple neck, same headstock shape. It was a Roadster. Looks to me as though the controls knobs have been changed, originally they were plastic, sought of Gibsonish. Played great though, as good as F Precision fretless with which I replaced it.
