spongebob Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I've posted this here, rather than the amps section, as it's not a question related to any individual brand/model. Essentially, I'm thinking of changing my Orange practice amp - think it's 25w. Looking at a Fender Rumble, as it would match my main rig. So no gear enquiry there! However, I like the options on the 40w model. Just a bit worried that the size is a bit of overkill for a practice amp. For our trio, it wouldn't be gig size...mainly for indoor use unless I'm backing some Morris dancers! So how big is yours......?! Quote
Lozz196 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 (edited) 25 watt Ampeg BA108 in living room, 15 watt Fender Rumble (old version) in spare room where PC is, for learning songs along to youtube. Neither get above 9 0`clock on volume. Edited July 26, 2015 by Lozz196 Quote
mikeycrikey Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I use a 20 watt Ampeg B108 for home practice. It's more than loud enough for my needs . Quote
JapanAxe Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 400W No really! Demeter into Midget, small enough for my tiny music room, I just don't turn it up. Quote
mikeycrikey Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Just checked my Ampeg B108 and it's 25 watts not 20 Quote

Iain Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I've an Ampeg Micro-CL stack in the study where I learn songs and do solo practice. My 'old' Markbass cabs - 1x12 and 1x15 live at our rehearsal space and I use that with my gigging head. Quote
Bobthedog Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 (edited) No doubt there will be come back on this, but 750 watts (according to TCE!). RH 750 through two RS212s. Volume is usually around 0900 to 1000hrs on the dial. My practice kit is my only kit down south, although I do keep a 10watt Vox (a pile of sh... imho) in Scotland. I am looking at a Phil Jones Super Flightcase BG300 for exam / practice / jam with mates deal (when funds / priorities allow). Edited July 26, 2015 by Bobthedog Quote
JTUK Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I use what I gig ..which is anything from 4 amps from 400w upwards plugged in the gigging cabs Quote
Marvin Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Very few watts. USB interface, a laptop and some headphones at home. In a rehearsal room i use what I'd gig. Quote
Roger2611 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Ampeg B1E 150w into a David Eden 1x10 volume kept pretty low but it sounds nice Quote
theyellowcar Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I actually have the Rumble 40, and it is overkill for a bedroom amp - I never drive it past 8 o'clock on the master. That said, it's really compact and light so it doesn't take up loads of room, and it's nice to know I have a bit of headroom to play with if ever I need it. Quote
smaz Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 At home, a Cafe Walter headphone practice box. Fantastic bit of kit. For practice amp, I have a 30 watt EBS session combo. That only handles small practices - at home, or with a very light drummer. If I need more than that, my gig rig of Orange Terror + Super Compact is easy enough to shift about. Quote
Happy Jack Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 WEM Dominator, 17W. Course, them's valve watts, none of yer solid state rubbish. Quote
Hope this makes sense, but is it a clear sounding 8 o'clock? When I run my Orange (checked and it's 20w) that low, it sounds terrible. It's either too loud, or cutting out! I was thinking that a 40w would provide a clearer tone, even at a low level? Quote
fretmeister Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I use my Demeter and Berg cabs. But I do have a Roland Bass Cube 30 that I do gigs with when supporting acoustic instruments and woodwind etc. it's great. Quote

M@23 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 70 watt, though it's only driving two 4" speakers. Quote
amnesia Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Erm...Genz Benz Streamliner 900 into my Bergantino HD112. Quote
chris_b Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 +1 I don't have a practise amp. I use my TH500 into an AE112 with the volume down. I wouldn't want to spend any money on an amp just for practising. Quote
DaBassMonsta Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 20W Peavey Microbass. Always been fine for me. Sits upstairs in the bedroom and I'll noodle away while everyone's downstairs watching TV. Quote
Paul S Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I have a trusty old Peavey TKO 80 that sits in the corner of my 'office' (spare bedroom). Not worth selling it so I use that quietly for home practice when Mrs S is not at home. Quote
mrtcat Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Genz streamliner 900 into BFM simplex 1x12. I built my own rehearsal / recording studio this spring in an outbuilding at the end of the garden. I also practice drums in there and we have weekly band rehearsal there too. Volume isn't really an issue. Quote
xgsjx Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Proof that watts don't make volume, it's the volume knob! When I gigged, My practice rig was whatever my gigging rig was. Quote
