The Admiral
Anyone got one? Thoughts on the value for money, (based on the reasonable quality/cost correlation)? At £105 I'm not sure what to expect (!), but the reviews are pretty good, and it seems to be a playable instrument. Thanks
Roland Rock
My mate bought one and I had a play for ten minutes or so, both unplugged and through his amp sim software. Seemed to be built to a reasonable standard. I didn't examine the frets and build quality up close, but it played quite comfortably. The tone was pretty good too. A perfectly playable and giggable bass I reckon. Edit: My experience was sitting down, and I have no idea how it balances on a strap. KevB
Not seen the HB version but I recall about 5 or 6 yrs back there was a guy who used to play a 'Shine' violin bass (he was a leftie) at jam sessions and it seemed decently put together and sounded pretty good, pretty strong pickups from what I recall (in my experience that's often where the cheap brands fall down). Who knows, the HB's might be coming out of the same factory? I'm not sure you can still get 'Shine' basses? Edit - just checked and they still seem to be in business, the violin bass is the VB833, no leftie model anymore though by look of it. 4-string-thing
No experience of the HB violin bass, but I do have an HB 50's P and a Le Marquis violin bass (possibly from the same factory?). Both are good instruments for the money, so if it's anything like them, you can't go wrong for £105!
kevvo66
I have hb 70s Jazz copy it really is a cracking bass ,I think the violin bass should be fine .and aren't most basses these days made in the same Chinese factory I won't mention the name ,apart from high end models that is

Just taken a look at the website, and they do a version influenced by the appearance of 'a well known bass guitar', which we won't mention by name. No Violin bass in their current range though. As has been said, the likelihood of them all coming out of the same factory is quite high, so the HB version looks like a good option for that money. kodiakblair
One of the fellas in the HB owners group on TB got one last week and if there was a chance of things going wrong they should have. It was a £40 deko and he never noticed it was a leftie until it arrived. Turns out he's chuffed to bits with it,the deko reason was switches were wired back to front ( off meaning on ) but with him swapping the nut and playing it upside down job's a good'un. Well £40 it'd need to be terrible not to be worth it. Got quite a few HB's myself from £50 basic P bass to £200 odd active thru neck fancy top BZ 4000, no complaints with any of them. PB-50 and JB-75 are both fine basses. Admiral you get 30 days to make up your mind time if it's for you or not,no quibble refund or replace if it's got QC issues and 3 years warranty. Kinda hard to go wrong.
4-string-thing
If you do get one and decide to gig it, Sono MS in Germany (via ebay) do a very nice fitted hard case for around 50 Euros....
