leschirons Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Blimey, just heard that Cilla Black has passed away. Shame. I remember some of her hits with fondness. Quote
MacDaddy Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Where did you hear that? It's not on the BBC website. Quote

HowieBass Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 I'm also saddened to hear this, 72 seems quite young. I really enjoyed her music, particularly her hits in the 60s and not ashamed to say I watched Blind Date on a regular basis too. Quote
essexbasscat Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 What ! That is a surprise (surprise) RIP Quote
Slipperydick Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Sad. I always thought she had one of the best soul voices to come out of the UK, but I didnt like all the family entertainment stuff. Quote
Hobbayne Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 i quite enjoyed the Sheridan Smith Cilla TV show last year. Quote
Mickeyboro Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015
i quite enjoyed the Sheridan Smith Cilla TV show last year.
Sure it will be repeated quick style... Quote
Bassman Sam Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 72 is no age these days. There's going to be a lorra lorra tears. RIP Cilla, you were a real star. Quote

4-string-thing Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 My mate played drums on her last album, released in 2008. He said she was a lovely woman, very friendly and had a great voice. Quote
ubit Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Sad news indeed. I used to love blind date. 72 is not old nowadays! Quote
Paultrader Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I'll always remember as a young student in the summer of 1976 who considered myself extremely cool, going down from Newcastle to visit my parents in Sussex. My dad had got tickets for us to see Cilla at The Congress Theatre in Eastbourne. What, Cilla, not Zeppelin or Zappa! Anyway, we went along and she knocked me out; fantastic voice, brilliant stage presence, and those wonderful songs from the 60s that I remembered so well. I felt more than a little chastened by my attitude. This was before she became a TV star. I hope they re-broadcast the Sheridan Smith series, I thought it was excellent. Quote
MarkW Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I must admit I have never been able to stand Cilla Black's voice, and have often used the fact that my father-in-law thinks she's fantastic as the absolute benchmark of his abject lack of musicality. Seriously, I've heard more melodious noises when I've trodden on the cat. Quote
bootleg Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Her voice was her personality. Great energy. Saw her once in Norwich, just coming out of a restaurant. She lit the place up for an instance. An unremarkable event really, but I'll always remember the impact it had on me. Quote
While it is true she'd never have won X Factor, just like Paul Weller, Mark Knoffler etc, her voice had character, which is far more important, you always knew it was Cilla, I couldn't stand her TV shows either Quote
