Annoying Twit
Rose Morris (the shop) has new Jazz basses for sale which are branded Rose Morris (about £170 quid) and Shaftesbury (about £350 quid). They are pretty much in the ballpark for modern Chinese made (I presume) Jazz basses. They play fine, IMHO, and are decent instruments for the money. Just mentioning them as we once in a while have a big thread about a new brand of bass that's great value for the money, such as Revelation. I'm just posting this as an example of how there are a LOT of those good value for the money brands, and the two Rose Morris own-brands are yet more examples. They told me that the Shaftesbury basses are imported as parts, and put together by their own tech. There was a quality control label on the bass, though in my own opinion the nut was cut high and there was a bit too much relief in the neck. It did seem to play quite well, and the neck had some interesting semi-flame grain on it. Is anyone still awake after all this writing about yet more cheap and mid-priced Jazz bass brands? alyctes
Always interested in cluttering up my life with instruments I can't play Just to clarify: The bass I've played most is a no-name J copy I got for £80. It's still the one I pick up when I want to work something out. Edited August 3, 2015 by alyctes
