philw
All, I recently put some Spirocore Lights on my DB (following suggestions in an earlier thread). I really like them and now of course I fancy a set on my NS CR4 EUB (currently fitted with the NS/D'Addario "traditional" strings). Thing is though I wonder if they'll fit in terms of their length. I've a feeling I need to buy 4/4 length. Before I whip one off the double bass and try it on the EUB, has anybody else been down this route? Phil
fretmeister
I've just sold my NXT but I had Spirocores on it. The string wrap was a bit long on 2 of the strings (due to the ball end anchor plate being staggered) and was over the nut, but I have to say there was no detectable interference with the tone. I had intended to use a sharp blade and trim the coloured wrap but I didn't bother in the end.
philw
Thanks Fretmeister. Now I'm wondering if the anchor plate on the NXT is dimensionally the same as the one on the CR4. I suspect there's no option but to take a string off the DB and try it on the CR$. P
TKenrick
Just out of interest, have you changed the tuners on the NXT? I found that mine couldn't cope with real double bass strings and I had to get a set of hipshots.
fretmeister
I had the stock tuners - worked fine for me with the Thomastiks. Didn't try any other brand of proper DB string though
