zedcar Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Hello A mate of mine has given me a hohner fretless Pbass but alas it is stringless. I've never owned (or even played) a fretless and was just wondering what kind of strings any of you wise people on here would recommend. He said to me when he gave it to me that it needs light strings as the neck has a tendency to bend if the strings are too heavy! Help please!! Cheers Z Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 It depends on the results you want. I use Thomastik JF344 jazz bass Flatwounds on my fretless precision and get a lovely deep growly mwahh sound. These are very light low tension strings, but you can probably use heavier strings if you're able to adjust the truss rod. Quote

Think there is a sticky posted on this very subject. Quote
bass_ferret Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Looks like its unstuck. Have a go with the search - I copied all the sh*t from bassworld. If you find it - get the mods to pin it. Quote
jwbassman Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I've got a set of DR nickel roundwounds on my fretless at the moment (bit of an experiment, just settled in so sounding good), usually use Overwater nickel roundwounds - I found the flats made the whole sound really dull, but I guess it's once again down to personal preference...
