Discreet earplugs

Recommended Posts

folks

I have some etymotic er-20s which are great for practice and gigs etc but I'd like a second pair for wearing more discreetly - like when at work or taking the kids to soft play (my local one is like an echo chamber). It's very obvious you are wearing the er-20 and they are quite easy to knock out because of how far they protrude.

I bought some Docs Pro Plugs which appealed because they were transparent, low profile, and didn't need to be inserted into the ear canal (which is uncomfy after a while). Unfortunately they don't fit me properly and so they don't work.

Anyone have any
recommendations for more discreet plugs?

It might be worth trying a different size of Doc's Pro Plugs. If you print this sizing transparency you can find the best match to your own ear.

I have a pair of these. At first I felt like I couldn't get a proper fit/they didn't do much in the way of noise reduction but I actually find them super comfy and I never have ringing in my ears after a rehearsal so they're doing the job for me. Fairly discreet too.

Discreet plugs..? :D Another vote for 3M Clears... I use them pretty much constantly and especially in social situations where I don't want to listen that closely to the vapid ramblings of those present. You know what people are like... these plugs are good for general use. They have short stalks too, so don't make you look like an alien. Or a twunt. Or a twunt/alien.

I have a pair in just about every coat and jacket I own, and in my wallet, too. You never know when you'll need them.
Better than nothing for when I forget my purpose-bought ER-20 rehearsal/gig plugs, too.

Ah bollocks! I did of course forget to add the link. A pair of these is what I meant

Moldable soft silicon plugs are surprisingly effective. Similar to chewing gum but not as sticky :) These are the type of thing, you can get them in boots or any chemist I would think.

When doing my planty travels I often room-share with a guy who snores very loudly - these cut it back to acceptable level.

Before getting moulded plugs I used these for years http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alpine-MusicSafe-Filter-Plugs-Musicians/dp/B000VO8PR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439272150&sr=8-1&keywords=alpine+hearing+protection

Alpine Musicsafe Pro. A bit fiddly to get in and out until you got the knack but I found them more comfy than Doc's Pro Plugs or Etymotic plugs and just as effective. Being able to change the level of attenuation was a real boon too.
