Pickup covers and ashtrays

I have a Mexican Fender Jazz which I thought I would pimp up a bit so have put a chrome pickup cover and a chrome bridge cover on. When plugged in the guitar makes a buzzing noise which disappeared when I touch eather cover. Any ideas?
