angelagnostic
So I learn and play by ear and am looking for some suggestions for tunes and albums to jam along with in the soul/funk/female singer category. This is for an audition coming up with the singer and band's style being out of my usual playing and listening zone. I am finding Jill Scott's first album a useful starting point - no slap and not too complex, which is exactly what I'm looking for; but I'm now a bit sick of listening to this over and over! Any suggestions? Cheers
chris_b
There's a Funk and Groove thread which contains 54 pages of song suggestions. Also go through Stax, Etta James, Leela James, Etta Britt, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt etc YouTube videos.

ambient
It's a little out of my zone, but If it's contemporary stuff, then maybe D'Angelo with Pino, or try Erykah Badhu, her live album is good, it's just her, bass drums and keys. Great bass playing too, I think he plays a 6 string MTD. 😊
