JJW Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I'm a massive Misfits fan and i've always loved Jerry Onlys bass so i decided to try and make my own, it didn't go perfectly but i'm happy with it as my first attempt! I finished it but i wasnt happy so i striped the paint, resanded and gave it another go. I finished painting it on August 4th and on August 5th i went to a Misfits concert ( I took my bass without the neck) but the secrurity stop me saying i wasnt allowed! I ended up speaking to the tour promoter who thought it was awesome that i build my own guitar, he spoke to Jerry Only and eventually I got to meet him backstage where he very kindly signed it for me! I am pretty happy with the end product considering i'm only 15. mrtcat Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 That's awesome, great job. I bet that was a tricky shape to cut out too. What's it made of and more importantly what does it sound like? Did you use parts from another bass? Quote
Cato Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 It's not going to be to everyone's taste, but it looks like you've done a fantastic job there. You should stick a thread up on the Build Diaries section I'm sure they'd be interested in the processes you employed to get such a great looking instrument. Quote
Rumple Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Not my thing at all but you have done a great job As mentioned above you should post this in the 'Build Diary' section. Quote
JJW Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 I used a neck from another guitar and bought pickups of someone on here and it sounds suprsingly good, i think the wood was ash but not too sure. Quote
kodiakblair Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Good on you young fella. Ten out of ten both for going to see Misfits and having the savvy to get round security hassles. Just need to workout how you get the Iceman. Quote
RhysP Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 You've done a fantastic job there, nice one! Quote
chriswareham Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 That's a really nice build and it's awesome that you got to show it to Jerry. I love the fact that his own basses, which he makes himself, have no volume control as he doesn't ever turn it down. As someone who's constantly checking my volume and tone controls are fully on I can see his point! Quote
tauzero Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 That's a nice job. I like the way you've shaped the body at the neck joint, shows you're thinking about it from a playing point of view and not just for the appearance. Quote
Skol303 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Great job! Nice backstage blagging too. "You'll go a long way..." Quote
Fozza Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I see you picked a nice, easy shape for your first build! Excellent work. Quote
James Nada Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Great post. I'm in awe of both the build and the backstage blagging. Quote
Roger2611 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015
Great post. I'm in awe of both the build and the backstage blagging.
I have to agree....cracking job on both accounts Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 That is incredibly cool! I had no idea they were still going either. Quote
joeystrange Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 That looks awesome! I remember you showing it to him. He was saying afterwards how cool it was! Good job! Quote
Annoying Twit Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 That is really impressive. A labour of love. Quote
