EdwardHimself
I dunno if this counts 'cos unless ur going to germany on holiday you can't exactly just try them out, but they do have a MASSIVE range of stock to choose from at very good prices. http://www.thomann.de www.station-music.de www.musicstore.de Despite their location they all deliver to UK at rates that frankly put UK dealers to shame, infact 2 of them offer free delivery for any bass worth getting, to put it in simple terms. Station music probably has the widest selection of basses, it pretty much specialises in basses actually. However it is the only one out of the three where you have to calculate currency and VAT- but unlike the US, it actually makes the price cheaper, given that German VAT is 19% compared to our 17.5% Edited July 16, 2007 by EdwardHimself

amj
Doubt it helps too many people but the Ishibashi shop in Akihabara, Tokyo had a great range of stuff! Huge cabinets of pedals and racks of basses! And on that note, the Japanese staff in all the shops I went in were nothing but brilliantly friendly and helpful. Really puts the grumpy sods in our shops to shame! Edited July 17, 2007 by amj

Breakfast
If you're ever in Toronto, Club Bass is an excellent bass-only shop. This was what was on their wall when we visited: Also lots of smart amplification from interesting makers... Golchen
Machinehead music in Hitchin is a good shop. They have a couple of small rooms with just basses. Their website is pretty useful - www.machinehead.co.uk Good staff as well.

Hamster
I've been into Andertons in Guildford quite a few times for various bits and pieces. Easy to park on the forecourt, reasonable range of MIM Fenders, Squiers, Warwicks, Ibanez's, Yamaha's. Practice room for you to doodle away in. Staff always very helpful and will cut a deal if you haggle for long enough! Stock - 8, Prices - 8, Service - 10 Hamster
WalMan
Shall I bump this in connection with http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=27195 I would add GAK in Brighton (the link is to the on-line shop which is a bit cheaper than the retail store though they will normally match The Guitar, Amp, & Keyboard Centre 76-81 North Road, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 1YD. 01273 665 400 I have bought a few things in there and always been happy with the deal. Range - 9 - not everything (what shop can) but a good selection from starter to high end Price - 9 - I've always been happy with the deals I have got Service - 9 - generally nice bunch of knowledgeable guys willing to spend time, let you try stuff, talk deals and not overly pushy
DirkThrust
I'd like to recommend Nevada in Portsmouth. http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/ I've been going in there for 25 years and I've always found the staff to have a very good attitude. Range - 7 - They are not a dedicated bass shop so they have a bit of everything, guitars, keyboards, drums etc., but they usually have a big selection of low to mid priced basses and a few top end Fenders, Musicmans and the odd Ric. Price - 9 - Their prices seem to be competitive with most other shops. The online prices are similar to GAKs online prices. Service - 10 - Excellent. Always helpful, enthusiastic and friendly. Some of the younger staff can be a bit clueless about bass but there is usually a bass guy around if you ask. I've never been pressurised or hassled in any way. They are always willing to let you try stuff out and they have two demo rooms where you can sit and noodle in private. Since they have relocated to an industrial estate outside of the town there is always loads of parking.
