Rich
On the other hand -- I'd rather be called 'solid' by someone who knew what they were talking about, than 'brilliant' by someone who didn't know a bass from a bagpipe.
discreet
Either that or your "bass face" makes you look like an axe murderer.
Better than your 'axe face' making you look like a bass murderer. Or something. Sorry, I didn't really think that one through... KevB
Once after a jam session another bass player (who'd supplied the backline) said I was one of the most 'natural' players he'd seen and asked if I gave lessons. I just assumed he was on drugs and politely thanked him and told him I'd never had a lesson never mind give any!
peteb
'Solid' is an acceptable epithet that, to my ears, means 'competent', 'reliable' but not exceptional. There are many stages above 'solid' (virtuoso, monster etc) but, if you achieve 'solid' you are on the first 'proper' rung of the ladder and will work. If you haven't yet acheived 'solid', you are probably a lightweight
There's plenty of bands where 'solid' will get you the gig but 'virtuoso' or 'monster' will rule you out. After all, you don't need to be Jaco to play in AC/DC - and they are one of the classic rock and roll bands...! inthedoghouse
Deffo take it as a positive :-) At our last gig I had someone (another player) say I played it 'as sweet as a nut' - I took that as a good thing :-)
