steviedee
Is it possible to get a wire to run for a power supply (voodoo lab) to a usb to power a device? So it would be the usual power supply cable and connector leading to a usb.
HowieBass
USB devices need 5 volt supplies, the current draw differs depending on the device - my mobile phone charger is rated at 0.7A, my Hudl 2 tablet charger is rated at 2.0A. AFAIK pedal supplies are usually in the 9 to 12 volt range so I reckon your Voodoo Lab unit would kill a USB device. Depending on the current draw you might be able to use a phone charger or similar. hubrad
Reminds me of an incident on tour when the drummer totally fried his brand new cd Walkman (4.5V) by plugging in the bass player's laptop power supply (19V).. there was smoke! :-D
steviedee
Cheers chaps I thought that might be the case. I just wanted to avoid another plug but no luck!
icastle
If the psu is 12v, why not take a look at the USB adaptors that are used in cars?
BigBassBob
If you've got a courtesy IEC socket on your Voodoolab then you could run a socket off that and plug your charger into it. It's what I do for storing crib sheets on my phone:
Sibob
As a further example, a USB recording interface will often require a 12v centre positive PSU, probably around 500ma. So it really depends what you're trying to power. Si
steviedee
Hi Simon It's a KMI midi expander for the 12 step foot pedal.
tonyquipment
Bang a few resistors in there and bring it down to 5v

If you really need that much power, use a dedicated PS like bigbassbob suggested. Edited August 22, 2015 by ProfFrink
steviedee
Big thanks to EBS_freak for telling me about Yankee power supplies! Bought a PS-M12 and it has a 5v USB slot for a lamp I believe. Works a treat for powering my 12 Step!
