I have accumulated several cheap basses (under £100) which need new necks - typically because of stuck trussrods.

None are of significant sentimental value. Some are still playable but obviously can't be adjusted.

Given that new necks are expensive, what advice would people give?

Thanks in advance :)

Sell them as projects. Keep 1 or if you want to but projects don't make for a good investment.

You also need to think about how you keep having problems with necks. Maybe you could go and see another BCer and check out the necks and he can check out how you go about adjusting TRs.

Cheap secondhand necks sometimes come up for sale on here on BC, I'd keep all the basses for now until you have found a neck/body combination you really like then sell the rest of the parts.

[sub]I think you've answered your own question. If they're cheap and have no personal value, strip off the usable bits - tuners, pu's, etc - and chuck them. No point in spending what it would cost to buy a decent instrument (several necks won't be cheap) on them[/sub]

Spotted this whilst looking for some tuners on Ebay, might be worth keeping an eye on if you have J or P type basses.

I've seen quite a few Harley Benton necks complete with tuners etc pop up on the bay or in bass trading selling groups they almost never get past 40 quid .

Does make me worry whats happening to the HB Bodies which tend to be of reasonable quality ?
:-S not saying that this is anyone here but we have seen a lot of unscrupulous folk going at them with bit of sandpaper .
