Old Horse Murphy
I didn't think I would be doing this in a hurry, but things change I guess and so... For sale is a 1988 Musicman Stingray (post-Ernie Ball with 4 bolt neck, truss rod access at the headstock, bridge with mutes etc) in Red. I have been told by a rather knowledgeable member on Talkbass that this was a Special Colour and is indeed quite rare. It's certainly not a refinish and indeed, the neck is stamped "Red". All the electrics are original and all the dates on the body, neck and electrics are pretty close otgether, so this isn't a bitsa. The bass weighs in at approx. 9lbs and has a lovely low action and has recently been set up. The pickguard is a genuine MM replacement but the original black one is included too (although a little warped). It's by no means pristine and has a number of marks on it (chips, a few dings, rusted pickguard screws and some buckle rash on the back of the body) but it's all commensurate with a bass of this age that's been well used but not abused. The mute pads are ones I put on there, so aren't original. This is a somewhat reluctant sale but is unlikely to be used for a while. I'm looking for £900. There is no case, but it will be well wrapped if delivery is required (I'd purchase a reasonable quality gigbag too). I'd also consider a trade with a new Series Fender American Vintage Bass It can be picked up from either Woking (weekends) or Bristol (weekdays). thebassist
Haha another one in and out of the stable. Looks beautiful and GLWTS! Off topic but that 2013 Jazz I bought back from you is incredible dude. Whenever I go to music shops I like to try their US Standard Jazz Bass stock simply to compare with the one I've got and again, yesterday, I went to Absolute Music in Poole and played three American Standard Jazz Basses and none of them came close to the one I've got! It really is incredible (and quite poor too) how different the same model of Fender can be!
bagsieblue
Lovely bass. I've got a similar vintage 1988 Blk,Blk,Maple one. Some of the best Stingrays are said to date from this era.
LiamD
Lovely looking bass! I'd snatch this up in an instant if I hadn't just sorted a deal for a 70's Jazz, GLWTS!
