Just got a zoom b3 and have started to experiment a bit with. I've not used a lot of effects before so its all a bit new. I have discovered that I like the compreesor effects on the zoom particularly the 160 Comp. I have had a look at a number of threads on the here and messed around with the settings, but if I'm honest i'm not really sure what i'm doing and its all a bit trial and error (mostly error). Just wondering if anyone could give me a few settings to start of with and any advice on adjusting the various ccompressor settings, thanks

Trial and error is actually the best way to set a compressor! There are no 'magic' settings, as the results depend so crucially on the bass, the pickup selection and tone setting, and most of all the way you play.

Having said that, there is a very good guide to setting up your compressor on the Ovni Labs website. Enjoy!

 • 3 weeks later...

Also just bought a Zoom B3. I'm using it into a PJB PB300 powered cab. Thanks for the link.

My first chain at practice was: - M comp - graphic eq - SVT. The default comp levels sounded ok with both my basses, maybe I was just lucky. I think I'll need to sharpen up my listening skill as the difference when tweaking can be quite subtle.

I was very impressed with the initial sound and am beginning to experiment with the various parameters. This is my first ever pedal and I reckon I shall be spending many hours exploring all the possibilities.
