colgraff Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 This is inspired by the Mustang Sally thread. I would choose: All Right Now Sweet Home Alabama Mustang Sally Quote
Hobbayne Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I dont mind playing them. Although SWA bores me rigid, the punters love them. Quote
bassbiscuits Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 In addition to the selection above I'd go for... Get it On Champagne Supernova Lucky Man Please no... Quote
bassbiscuits Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Weirdly as some one else has pointed out - I did all three of the original choices in a wedding gig a few weeks ago and the punters loved it! oh well. Quote
Agreed. There are certain songs that I hate playing, but I assume the reason we play in public is to satisfy the punters ? Quote
LiamPodmore Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Teenage Dirtbag and Stacys Mom. I've played them too many times in my life to ever enjoy them. Liam Quote
tauzero Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Red Red Whine Dance the night away Fortunately they're in the set list from a previous band, and I can cope with doing them on the occasional dep. Quote
gary mac Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I find 500 miles totally groan inducing but the punters seem to love it. Quote
Yeah - I'd put Oh Well on the list too. Quote
mrtcat Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 All of the below turn my stomach. I dep quite a lot and when I get pub "classic rock" bands approaching me I know that pretty much all of these will feature and it makes me sad. Oh well - think of the cash. Black Night Can’t Get Enough Alright Now Born To Be Wild Paranoid Doctor Doctor Black Velvet Brown Sugar Honky Tonk Women Tie Your Mother Down Shook me All Night Long She Sells Sanctuary Whole lotta Love The Chain Sweet Home Alabama Rock And Roll You Really Got Me Going Highway to Hell Sweet Child Boys Are Back You Give Love A Bad Name Summer of 69 Sex On Fire Dakota Quote

Cosmo Valdemar Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Sweet Soul Music. HATE HATE HATE IT. We still play Mustang Sally at weddings as it always goes down a storm, without fail. Quote
Marvin Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015
Guess. Go on, guess.
Who did that one? Never heard of it Quote
PaulWarning Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I'll put up with most things if it gets the crowd going, if that doesn't float your boat maybe you should just rehearse and never do a gig, I would happily never do Nellie the Elephant but the crowd loves it, if they're pissed enough Quote
colgraff Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 I agree with most nominations. Obviously I would always play anything as we are there for the clients but there is a mental distinction between pleasure and duty! Quote
jonsmith Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I've had to play the original 3 within the past year and I'd quite happily not play them ever again. However I accept that I'm there to entertain & that happy punters mean a happy venue owner. This means money, beer & repeat bookings, so I grit my teeth and get on with it. I do find that I derive a lot of pleasure from a big crowd of people dancing and singing along to stuff I'm playing and all three of those songs have provoked that sort of response regularly. I scored quite highly on mrtcat's list too, I'm afraid. Quote
Nicko Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Cant get you outta my head. Anything by Bryan Adams Anything by Dire Staits Quote

I would choose: All Right Now Sweet Home Alabama Mustang Sally
All right now is actually one of my favorite songs to play, the other I dont find especially offensive either. The only song on my personal no-way-on-earth list is "rocking" in the free world (quoted because Id be hard pressed to think of any song that "rocks" less than this one) . Quote

elephantgrey Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I was in a band once that did a cover of canon in d. Im pretty sure that Pachelbel hates bassists. Quote
Woodinblack Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Ever fallen in love. I never liked it as a song anyway Quote
Slipperydick Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Wonderful Tonight Black Magic Woman Still Got The Blues Dancing in the Moonlight Summer of 69 Apache All Right Now would be on there but I have never stooped quite that low and always refused to play it. Once, when looking for a covers band I ran an add on Partysounds with the line 'anybody who wants to play Alright Now or Apache needn't bother to contact me. Quote
