But maybe

is more like what the OP envisaged.

I do really like that actually :) And the Spock one is pretty nuts.

The Plastic Bertrand song uses the backing track to this:

With a new vocal (which wasn't actually by Plastic Bertrand but by the producer of the original version).

"Making Bacon" by the Pork Dukes. Used to be very poular with (some of) the Morris team at the time.

Actually I withdraw that nomination. It has no artistic merit at all!

Interesting, thanks. Interesting how the falsetto 'ooh ooh ooh' in the cover version gives it the jump-out pop hook.

Don't know if this track made it over to the UK but they were a one hit wonder in NZ.

I liked them a lot...apart from the aprons.

They had two big hits in Australia, this one and Hungry Town. Both great songs, even if they were quite similar to each other.

It is a great song but has to be considered a tad novelty

I drew the line at posting the adult version of Agadoo from the Blue Album ;)

And anything by The Proclaimers, Paulo Nuttini and most of the UK pop charts for the last 10 years

Don't have time to go thru whole thread so apologies if these have already been posted

No so much novelty in the actual sounds as the not quite run of the mill subject matter.

Some absolute gems in this thread. I love nearly all of them.
But especially good call on Ray Stevens. I rather like 'It's me again Margaret', although it's not very PC! :-)

Also, I had Big Bad John played at my Dad's funeral. He loved that song. They played it as the coffin was brought in. The pall bearers placed it down and bowed just as the words rang out 'At the bottom of this mine lies a big, big man'. Perfect timing! :-)

I bought the album.

Another bizarre offering from Ray Stevens was a version of Glenn Miller's 'In The mood' performed entirely as chickens. I recall it distinctly as we had it on vinyl at hospital radio and I'd give it a spin every now and again.

This is seriously my favourite record of all time. I want it played at my funeral.

Ha!

I've asked my wife to play Gay Bar by Electric 6 at my funeral. I doubt she will.

So I'll throw Gay Bar into the mix, and this:

I wouldn't say Wooly Bully was a novelty record!

We used to play it as an encore, did again last night after being reminded of it in this thread. The audience loved it.

The other odd one we sometimes do is Werewolves Of London.

Oh! Great call!
Fantastic song.

I've also heard Focus' "Hocus Pocus" being called a novelty song several times.
Don't really know what constitutes a novelty song, but here it is:

Four to the floor, cliches and sound FX with some octaves thrown in to round it all up.
Exactly how John Williams imagined it should be.
All very well played and arranged though.
