Conan
I was going to suggest a clone of my current set-up, as it would appear to tick all of your boxes... but then you say you don't want Markbass or "boutique" (whatever that means!). My LMII into two 8 ohm Bergantino HS210s would seem to be you perfect rig. It certainly works for me Any reason for the dislike of MB amps? I like clean and simple, and I've tried a few in the last year or so. The MB give me the tonal control I want without any unnecessary features (I leave the filters alone!). It certainly sounds good through the Bergs. Edited September 10, 2015 by Conan
bjelkeman
I know that aren't 2x10 cabs, but if you have a chance try the TKS S112 cabs. Two of them is a very nice setup. And lightweight to boot. Check this thread for some impressions: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/212014-tks-engineering-cabs-new-to-the-uk/page__fromsearch__1

bagsieblue
My 2 x EBS Neoline 110 cabs are flat and crystal clear. http://www.gear4musi...ker-Cabinet/P34 Also available in 210 format: http://www.ebssweden.com/content/neoline.php On Amps., apologies for the Markbass mention but a MB F1 is the cleanest / flattest I've used. JTUK
I'd say TH500 and 2 xTKS S112's will do most gigs. If you can't get a very good sound out of that, then don't look at the amps and cabs. The cabs are very versatile...and can cope with a TH or Demeter and I'd say they are pretty far apart in tone goals. As for for clean and flat etc etc ..I think it is largely hogwash and not really an end goal at all..especially when you consider the rest of the chain people hook up it with. I think most people's problems with sound is what they put into the amp/cab in the first place... I have 2 amps that I currently use... a TH500, A DB750 and a Demeter and I can get the same sort of sound out of all of them...it is how it gets delivered that is the real gamechanger, IMO. fretmeister
Demeter amp Super clean and clear There are two models, 800W and 400W http://www.bassgear.co.uk/product-category/bass-amps-and-cabs/demeter/ Cabs - Bergantino CN series. http://bergantino.com/product/cn210-loudspeaker/ I use the 12 inch version of the cabs with the 800W amp. It is very clean, with a sensible eq (no real extremes) and allows the sound of each of my basses to come though naturally. It also takes my pedal board really well. bjelkeman
A clean amp. Not many know how it sounds yet, but I bet the new Mesa Subway D-800 is both lightweight and clean. Shipping in October supposedly. Weighs 5.5 lbs.
tonyclaret
Now, it's already been said, I have a couple of Bergantino AE112 cabs and a great TECAMP Puma in the for sale section. Just saying, great sounding rig.

stoo
Hi Happy Jack, thanks, good call, Yes the GK MB series have been on my radar, but I wanted to make sure about the Clean sound. GK are known for their "growl", and I think its accessed via the contour control/button, but I wanted to be sure that it could be completely defeated, some amps have a baked in profile or sound concept that just cant be overridden.
My understanding of it is that the growl and the contour are pretty much unrelated - The growl is, I believe, essentially distortion from cranking up the preamp gain to work the power amp input harder. Contour is a control that scoops mids and boosts highs and lows. If you set the master volume up and keep the preamp gain down it sounds pretty clean and flat to my ears, but if the preamp does add colour you dislike, you could always plug straight into the FX return and just use the power amp. I've done that a few times when we needed to use my amp for vocals as well (obviously with a mixer between the bass and the FX return to allow the mic feed to be added). Works well for me. Lw.
Warwick lwa1000? They've got a 500 on the way but I don't think it's out yet. I love the clean tone of Warwick amps but they don't get much attention on here.
timhiggins
Hi Pete another vote for Eden from me i have the EC 15 180 combo and love it ,so my next amp will be the WTX 500 which i have tried [with 4x10] and loved ..i'm not sure how flat it is but it sounds real good to me and there are no silly overdrive type things on it

Guest bassman7755
The techamp pumas are about as flat/uncolored as your going to get for a bass amp. Cab wise restricting yourself to 10s severely limits the choice of cabs with a flat/hifi design ethic as most such cab use 12's with 10s primarily being used in more traditional coloured/mid prominent cabs. Really the only ones I can think of are the ACME range and youd have to import those from the US (or get lucky on ebay or basschat market place). fun size nick
Perhaps you should define what you mean by 'boutique'. One problem you're going to have with your criteria is that, especially on the speaker cab side of things, super flat is hard to find in mainstream brands and tends to be the domain of smaller manufacturers such as bergantino, barefaced etc.
