Woodinblack Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I am on a road trip of the states, starting in LA, going out a bit and the all the way up to Seattle later on. So far I have done LA to Phoenix. I have visited a few guitar centres and a Sam ash in LA and have been really surprised at the lack of choice in these shops. There are a million and one guitars, but when it comes to basses, it is the obligatory fender / squier jazz, precision, dimension, sub, mm, couple of yamahas, couple of ibanez, and that's it. I was hoping to see some G&L, and maybe some other interesting things. Has the guitar centre just taken over music shops and having the same generic stock everywhere or am I missing anything? Quote
wateroftyne Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Did you check out The Bass Place in Phoenix? Quote
Woodinblack Posted September 13, 2015 Author Posted September 13, 2015 No, I hadn't, but now I will! Quote
Passinwind Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 When you get up to Seattle hit Bass Northwest. You can check on their stock on the website. Quote
chris_b Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Bass Northwest, Seattle. Mike Lull, Bellevue, just outside Seattle. Quote
lowdown Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 What? You already take two Basses to gigs, is that not enough? So now, you are driving all over the States looking for more? Top man - That's what I call real indulgence.....Lol..... Enjoy your trip. Quote
chris_b Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Musicman is at San Luis Obispo, just north of LA. Alembic (Santa Rosa?) and Mesa Boogie at Petaluma. Both on 101 north of San Francisco, and both have factory tours, . Quote
Woodinblack Posted September 15, 2015 Author Posted September 15, 2015 I need to practice, the skin has peeled off my fingers from not playing for a week! Thanks for the recommendations, will check that out when I get to Seattle Quote

Icunningham Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I never knew about the bass place in Phoenix and I've been there quite a lot. It's definitely on the to do list now Quote
wmsheep Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 if you are in San Diego, you could do a lot worse than visit the Carvin shop and factory. http://www.carvinguitars.com/locations/ Quote

mikeswals Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Yup, everything in the Bass NW building has been cleared out as of yesterday. But Chad's new store The Bass Shop is ramping up at a good pace. Musicman factory however doesn't let anyone in for tours. Quote
Woodinblack Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 Back now. Saw that the bass place was closing (and even by the time I had got there it was cleared for retail). Turns out we didn't have long by the time we got to seattle, which was a bit of a shame as it seemed like a nice place to look around (if not to stay at a hotel!) Quote
