Looking for recommendations for an inexpensive (£40 absolute max) set of cans to use with my amp. I have a set of Phillips headphones at the moment but they're not great, everything sounds heavily squashed and generally a bit thin.

I'm looking something that sits on the ear, and has a good cable length (at least 3 metres).

What's good?

I recently got a set of these, amazingly good. I've tried £200 sets that I didn't feel offered better sound.

I picked up a pair of these:

AKG K99's:

Based on a recommendation on here. Lovely headphones - very comfortable & light, with a clear & balanced sound. 3m cable too I believe.

This could become a very long list; the OP will be spoilt for choice. Have a look at the Superlux range at Thomann; you're sure to find something that ticks all your boxes. I have their HD 669, at £20, for all uses, and wear 'em for hours at a time, but there are many more models to consider...

Sennheiser HD419 for me. But Bluetooth does appeal to me too.

Edit: Those August Bluetooth headphones would appeal to me if there was a transmitter too.

Superlux or the Sennheiser HD202.

I recently bought some Superlux HD-681 Evo and they're excellent. I've also owned a pair of HD202 for at least a decade and they're still going strong. Don't think you can go wrong with either.

As good as my silly money Grado cans. Annoyingly!

After years of mucking about with cheaper cans, I am very happy with my Grado SR 80e headphones that didn't break the bank at under £80.

Another option - Samson SR850 are apparently identical to one of the Superlux models (668?) and get very good reviews. I'm happy with mine but take no notice as my ears are rubbish :(

I use a set of earbud headphones. Usually Panasonic or similar. About £15. They sound just fine to me but my hearing isn't all it could be. If it wasn't for my cat they would probably last forever. As it is, they last about 4 - 12 months if I'm lucky.
