Painy Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Anyone seen the new Ken Smith singlecut? http://www.kensmithbasses.com/models/neckthru/msmodel/MSsinglecut.html Quote
Sibob Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I like singlecuts, but the Ken Smith is 'meh' Si Quote
Kiwi Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 It's like announcing Zoe Ball is going to be presenting Top Gear. Seriously, the removal of the upper cutaway adds nothing to the design. For a man who has so steadfastly remained true to his vision, this development is very inconsistent. Quote
Painy Posted September 14, 2015 Author Posted September 14, 2015 To be honest I'm turning into more of a 'Fender kind of guy' these days but I still maintain the best bass I ever played was a 6 string Ken Smith in the old Wapping Bass Centre. I actually think this looks quite nice but truthfully, if I was ever in the market for a Smith then it'd probably be a black tiger. Quote
franzbassist Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015
I like singlecuts, but the Ken Smith is 'meh'
+1 I'm afraid, and I like Smith basses a lot Quote
discreet Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but to me most bass singlecuts looks like the offspring of a whale and Pac-Man I'm sorry to say. Of course the most important thing is how it plays and how it sounds, isn't it? ...Isn't it..? Anyway if we're going on appearance alone, KS basses always look to me like they've got a pair of buttocks. However, I'm quite prepared to admit that may be more of an issue with me than it is with KS basses, but there it is. Edited September 14, 2015 by discreet Quote
Graham Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 How's about this [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/FB_IMG_1442262076241_zps0jxy9vzy.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> Quote

Bassassin Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Looks less like Snoopy than most singlecuts... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:58513] ...but it's still a dog. Jon. Quote
chris_b Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Not for me. I like single cuts but only along the lines of the Anthony Jackson Fodera, or the Rob Allen Deep basses, or, at a pinch, the Ken Lawrence Brase series. Quote
Cameronj279 Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I like it better than other Ken Smith's I've seen...still wouldn't buy one though. Quote
FuNkShUi Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I like singlecuts. Especially some Sei i've seen. Not a fan of this one though Quote
Truckstop Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Looks to me like he's ripped off Alpher! Quote
Sibob Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015
Looks to me like he's ripped off Alpher!
I was thinking that a little. Although the amount of companies that have ripped Foderas SC designs is crazy, bearing in mind that Fodera have been busing SCs since the 80's. Si Quote
paul h Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Looks like the offspring of a dinosaur and Manic Miner to me. Quote
Lw. Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Funny you should post a picture of a Warwick - that Ken Smith has a bit of a Warwick Katana look to it in my eyes. Definitely one for the anti-porn thread anyway. Quote
Graham Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I posted that Warwick on Facebook as well and my mum thinks it looks like a poppadom, and one of my mate's reckons it would suit The Thing from Fantastic Four:lol: Quote
LewisK1975 Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I've always fancied an ASAT bass - do they qualify as single cuts? Quote

I would say yes, they do qualify as singlecuts however probably not what the bass community now interprets a single cut to look like i.e. it is not fugly Quote
Yes, of course - I think this is pretty much the only SC I'd be seen in public with. The Les Paul less so, but it's still OK comparatively. Quote
CamdenRob Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 What are all those controls on the LP?... There more knobs and switches on there than a fodera. Quote
