Hello Everyone.
i have to adjust the truss rod on my MIM waters signature P about 4-5 times a year. but it suddenly gets loose again after a couple of months. is it normal? it's a bit tight when adjusting but adjusts very well to my desired position. i'm just worried about having to re-adjust it periodically. shed a light please. thanks a lot.

Not at all usual in my experience, however I do live in Wales. Does your bass have a dual action truss rod with the walnut (?) access plug at the nut end. My Telecaster developed a loose plug (glue failure) which resulted in subtle truss rod issues. This was spotted when I admitted defeat and got a professional setup. Solved with some glue :) Some truss rods end up crushing neck wood due to inadequate size washer behind adjuster.

sir mine is a vintage type single rod with the adjuster at the neck heel. no access at any other place of the neck to the truss rod. hope the problem is not at the hidden end. i think i should check the washer first. i appreciate your input :)

i'm going to put one or two shims/washers under the truss rod nut to buy more turns. any idea about the size of the washer that suits best for Fender's vintage truss rods (nut at neck heel)?

This thread suggests the size you need is '2BA small' (see third post down)

This is not normal.

Might be a symptom of a bigger problem. I'd get it seen to by a tec.

Hi chris thanks. what are the possible problems, before i search for a techie because they are rare in my area.

YB, I can't think of anything that would be helpful.

Where are you based?

I know luthiers can use Loctite 222 Screwlock to keep screws in place, which might otherwise vibrate loose. It might stop your truss rod unwinding.
thanks chris. i'm in Iran. i may find something similar to that product. so you think i need to control the torque. but i think it's more of a wood squash problem because the nut goes deeper in its cave every time and it seems to be maxed out now! let me post a picture now
thanks man this worked and i read uncle's post. i wrote it down and will bring it to the hardware shop to see what's available. or maybe a washer close to that plus some mods on them. cheers

If you put a mark - felt tip pen or similar - on the nut & adjacent wood, you will see if it is actually the nut loosening or the wood compressing. Two different problems IMHO.

bought some metal washers from our local hardware shop. inner:5.5 vs outer:10 millimeters. narrowed the outer to 9mm myself and they fit perfectly. bass is set up to a good action with no problem (at least for now). thanks again.
