bassist_lewis Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 i have a mono M80 and the guitar tick and although I've only had both for about 4 months the Velcro has lost a lot of its stickiness. Does anyone know how to restore it? On the M80 it's the cable holder and it's the loop side that is showing signs of wear. Quote
mentalextra Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I'd like to see a photo. But, it is possible to 'clean' the velcro which can improve its ability to grip. It tends to get full of fluff and hair. Its also possible to buy velcro and perhaps you could replace the worn part but stitching a new part over the old? Quote
anDy LAKIN Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 yeah if its full of fluff you just need to pick it all out with a needle Quote
bassist_lewis Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 There's no fluff in either the hooks or loops, the loop side has just "fluffy", strands sticking out everywhere Quote
Number6 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I think the title of the thread is the answer. It needs replacing somehow. The loops are clearly cream crackered. Quote
Mudpup Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 4 months old? That's not very long for a premium priced product to last. I'd have a polite word with the retailer and possibly email Mono too. See what happens from there. Quote
xgsjx Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Sounds like it's probably not even Velcro, but a cheap imitation. Get yourself to the shops & buy some proper stuff for the job. Quote
bassist_lewis Posted October 13, 2015 Author Posted October 13, 2015
Sounds like it's probably not even Velcro, but a cheap imitation.
Having looked at the tick closely I don't think it would be possible because the Velcro is sown to an outer skin which then has an inner padding sown on the inside so you'd have to remove the outer skin to replace it. I considered replacing it with pop fasteners (I don't understand why any premium product would even use Velcro!) Quote
xgsjx Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I'd consider taking it back to where you bought it & ask for a replacement or a refund. Not fit for purpose if it's only lasted 4 months. Quote
charic Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Yeah definitely sounds like it needs a replacement :/ Quote
pfretrock Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Velcro life is specified as 'high' for Nylon and 'medium' for Polyester, whatever that means! It could be a cheaper counterfeit brand. http://bit.ly/1MqfORL Quote
colgraff Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 It's not necessarily the right solution, but if you end up replacing the 'Velcro' yourself, Graphite Hook and Loop from B&Q is incredibly strong (and expensive, around £10 per metre). You could probably stick a space shuttle onto its boosters with this stuff. Quote
