adamg67
I went for an Ibanez BTB 456 (second hand) and I love it. The BTBs are nothing like the SRs at all, I had an SR506 as well and they're just completely different. String spacing is a bit narrower than you're after at 17mm, 19 would be a wiiide neck on a sixer, but they're 35 inch scale, great electronics and they look good IMO. tauzero
Peavey Grind 6ers are ace as well, and cheap as chips used.
I would suggest that except that the string spacing is relatively narrow.
Paulhauser
If string spacing is and issue then Spector, Cort, Ibanez SR and Yamaha JM2 have all quite tight spacing (16.5mm for Ibanez, 17ish for Cort and Spector and JM probably 17.5 IIRC) I have owned them all. Ibanez BTB's have larger spacing just as the older Japaneese TRBs like the TRBII6 which is 19mm. Owned BTB and TRB6II, too. BTB had a chunky neck I did not like. TRB6II is one of the best 6 string I ever had and if you can source one used they will be around your budget and well worht every penny. Spector Euro6 is a great bass with quite beefy neck. String spacing is around 17mm. Can be over your budget even used, but not much (800ish)
